Tree stumps (honey)
So i found the book that lets me get honey from harvesting actual trees, which has been a lifesaver for incection. I didnt know that we could get it from tree stumps with better chance prior to getting that perk though, and im now in the desert biome.

Wondering if tree stumps can spawn in this biome or do i need to take a trip back to the lush area to stock up on honey quicker?

I've never seen one in the desert.

Same. One could check biomes.xml to make sure.

Yep, 100% no stumps in Desert as Deko (Biomes.xml)
only as part of a few pois
or as Mod

Thanks guys, went for a bike ride back to the lush biome yesterday, found a lumber mill with a tonne of tree stumps around it and got a load of honey stocked up at base now :)

Your chance of honey are much greater when the stumps are on pois

I’m pretty sure there’s only one block definition for the tree stump, which means there could only be one probability for dropped honey on harvest. Anecdotal variance is best attributed to randomness or confirmation bias.

There was a bug when the drop chance was reduced, which happened in one of the A20 updates. I forget which exactly. POI stumps still used the old drop chance (40%, I believe) while stumps in open landscape correctly used the new chance (20%, I'm fairly sure).

I'm fairly certain it was patched in a later update so that all stumps correctly drop at 20%.

Well it cant affect new games. It doesnt matter if a Stump is added via Biome xml during runtime or by RWG as part of a poi when the map is generated.
The Block id is what leads to the values, and there is only one Block ID

Only thing that can be is that a "saved" stump is saved with the wrong value, no idea if the game saves this value, allready generated loot for example is stored

But its very common that such wrong assumptions are taken as proof.
If you have bad luck for 30 Stumps and then you have luck at the poi Stumps you maybe think its because they are POI stumps. One day later you have again luck, and thats enough to see it as rule.

I regret not looking it up before responding.

<!-- World deco --> <block name="treeStump"> ... <drop event="Destroy" name="foodHoney" count="1" prob=".2"/> ... </block> <!-- Different collider that allows objects to be placed on top of it --> <block name="treeStumpPOI"> ... <drop event="Destroy" name="foodHoney" count="1" prob=".4"/> ... </block>

So in the current game, POI stumps drop honey twice as often. Based on the comment that the other one exists to have a different collider, I'd agree that this is probably a bug, and would be worth reporting if it hasn't been already.

Oh I'm all for the honey in PoIs, you have some old abandoned beefarms in certain cities, not sure if they have stumps though.
