the nurse zombie
man, she was so iconic. every day i wake up, go looting, and hope i will turn a corner and see her. but i know i wont. she is sorely missed. :ripgrave:
I understand *why* she was removed; but the new model couldve simply been added as a 'doctor' zombie in scrubs, leaving her in her position as head nurse.

It really seems like they're stripping away all of the unique charm that this game had and replacing it with generic assets that, in their own words, "fit better in all locations". No more cowboys, no more football players, no more strippers. Just the stereotypical zombie game enemies.

They better not remove big momma next!

Strippers as in the ones in the black dress? Or is that a different one?

They serve a similar theme, I suppose. But they've been renamed as "Party Girl". They're clearly not strippers, just women who were out for a night of fun.

And aesthetically, I prefer them over the stripper anyways. I just wish we didn't have to sacrifice one for the other.

Either way, there are 28 or 29 different zombie models, which I feel like is enough.

We're fighting thousands of zombies. 28 different kinds is not even close to being enough of a variety. At the very least we could have alternate textures or different outfits.

But the point wasn't about quantity, it was about the unique style. I'd gladly take 28 memorable zombies than "guy in tanktop" and "Lois Griffin cosplayer".

That's weird too because clearly different enemy types can be restricted to certain biomes and POIs. I would expect to find cowboy zombies in one of those old west town POIs, nurses in a Poppin' Pills, football players and cheerleaders at the stadium, etc.

At the same time, it makes perfect sense for Party Girl to be wandering around 2KM from the nearest town in the middle of nowhere!

I dont hate this zombie in question, but the newer blob-head zombie feels out of place amongst the rest of them too. The demolisher doesnt make sense either until its somehow explained via lore, but it's at least humanish. The blob-head one feels like it's from deadspace.

The new nurse zombie looks like an actual nurse. The old one looks like a Halloween costume.

Not that I have anything against the idea of encountering a zombie in costume but that should be a one-time thing, not a regular spawn. The new nurse zombie is a big improvement in my opinion.

I do think cowboy zombies make more sense than lumberjacks in Arizona, but then again the Arizona I'm aware of doesn't have deserts bordering winter wonderlands.

For sure, it’s a change in stylistic direction. But for those arguing for keeping both, it’s worth remembering that style wasn’t the only consideration. The remade zombies are higher fidelity and more performant than the zombies they replace. That’s important! Ultimately, it means new zombies = more zombies on screen.

So sure, they could’ve chosen to make the new nurse a sexy Halloween costume type nurse like the old one. If they wanted a game where the zombies are exaggerated stereotypes, they could pursue that look. It’s their game. But just adding a new nurse while keeping the old one wasn’t going to fly.

That said, I am 1000% for random variation among individual zombies. So wanting more types is understandable; I just think the way to get there isn’t through artists making discrete types one at a time.

performance is important. its important to find the line between how you want your game to look and making sure players can actually play. i appreciate that.

This is less about my desire to play a game with exaggerated zombie stereotypes, and more about my desire for a mascot to remain a mascot! the new nurse is boring! she doesnt have to show skin or be sexy or interesting. maybe some funky scrubs, or a surgery ready hair net and apron? :BL3Shrug: there are lots of different ways female medical personnel could be dressed at any given time. why's she even got to be a nurse? try an EMT! that being said, i think the nurse is the weakest of the new additions so far, and looking forward. i really like the A21 armor sets.

I get you. But it might feel out of place because there really aren't many other abomination-type enemies in the game. I am totally for adding more grotesque creatures to the game. But as it is right now, all we really have is the blob, and maybe the wight and spider zombie if you want to consider them that.
