Wasteland only challenge
I saw KingGen let’s you create a single biome map so of course now I need to try a Wasteland-only map.

Any tips on how to survive the first day/week?

Grand Spartan on YouTube is your man. He's done a series, or streamed pretty much any nutso game setting you can think of.

Spoiler alert: You're going to die a lot.

I can think of multiple areas of emphasis that could help.

Most of all, I would lay low at night (consider From the Shadows). As you progress, you’d want to update your self assessment of what you can and can’t handle. Be aware of your surroundings, not just in terms of where the zombies are, but to where you could retreat if needed, especially since you can’t duck into an easier biome for some relief (consider Parkour, Rule 1: Cardio). Lastly, it might not make much difference in the first week, but theoretically the loot bonus in that biome could make looting more lucrative than other activities like mining or harvesting (consider Lucky Looter).

Yeah I was definitely thinking of going agility for the stealth BUT also maybe strength Clubs for when I get swarmed. Was vacillating between AGI/STR or AGI/INT.

At night you are going to want to be as quiet as a church mouse. Running a vehicle will be a lot harder without a desert to get fuel from.

Oh yeah I forgot yhete would be no shale….

Aren’t there some buildings that have shake on them now, basically the oil tankers?

Always keep wood spikes in your hotbar, early on they are your only defence from dogs.
Find a Trader on Day 1, set a base nearby, rush Tier I quests to obtain a bicycle, preferrably the fetch ones, because they're the easiest.
Travelling on foot in Wateland makes you extremely vulnerable, so it's imperative to obtain a bicycle asap.
You might wanna check Genosis survival series in Wasteland at nightmare zombies speed:

If you don't take a 10 km commutes every day, and I absolutely see no reason for that, you'll be fine. Just don't forget to install vehicle fuel preserve mod

One of the things I found handy for a Wastelands game was making escape-pillars (just stacking a couple blocks, cobblestone). While running along the road towards or back from a mission, whenever my stamina was around 20%, I'd make a pillar and jump onto it to let my stamina refill. You can use a shovel or spear to attack a dog at the base of the pillar, but any weapon would do vs Zs. Tourists seem able to jump 2 blocks high if they want.

Having rank 2 Parkour is a great idea too. Something I liked with that was placing Iron Bars against a handy wall so that the bars were sticking out like a platform at the bottom of the 3rd block from the ground. You're able to jump onto that with Parkour2, but Z's just walk under it so won't damage it, and since it's Bars, you can shoot through it if you wanted to.

I didn't bother with a vehicle before Motorcycle, but now that Vulture's don't auto-aggro you, they might be worth trying.

Since Zs are attracted to noise, it's a good idea to get stealthy early (rank 3 was fine for me with quiet armor, later I was doing fine with muffled Steel and ghillie suit), and use Silencer mod in quiet weapons (Pistol and SMG worked well for me).

Throw rocks to distract most Z's (but not Cops or ZDogs, probably a few others).

Thanks for the video link! That one seems like a good series. I was watching Spartan and he’s hilarious but was almost setting himself up to die…

Yeah I was thinking just wrenching cars with high harvest skill should give a substantial amount.

I like the pillar idea and I completely agree that Parkour the ultimate escape skill. I often use it to jump over high fences to run away from dogs.

even in normal difficulty, only wasteland is brutal, way too many zombie bears at lvl 1

Having two bases is a good idea, one for crafting that'll generate most of the heat, and one to shore up in that is easy to run to and defend.
Orclover Aug 19, 2022 @ 3:47pm
This actually sounds like a fun challenge to try out since the base game is too easy. Going to skip the video though, always ruins the fun.
