Yeah, it's easy but, I believe in the near future, bypassing it will mean people won't be able to join MP servers anymore. I could be wrong? Honestly, I doubt they're trying to get our data to sell off to 3rd party ad lists.....but, I could be wrong there too? lol
Thanks greatly for the post Jost and to stretch611.
Well, this is a bit of good news at least for a single player game since that is what I plan on sticking with. Hopefully it does not get "patched" but at least this is an easy fix. I still freely express my disdain for EGS.
While epic might not be trying to ruin lives, you really think EGS gets NOTHING out of giving EAC free to developers now with EOS included?
https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-has-made-easy-anti-cheat-free-for-game-developers/
I finally answered a question I posed before on "what value does EOS have for a single player only game like the Long Dark?" after reading this article.
It is worth a read on the article no matter your opinion of EGS.
I can understand why people criticize such services actually. We live in a time where everyone is doing business (or worse) with our personal information, and we have little protection (if even the opposite) from the governments.
However, I don't want to instigate this conspiracy theory mentality, where everything is a scam and everyone is out to steal from you (players/citizens/employees). That is a slippery slope to go on.
Let's keep our "theories" for things of much greater importance, like the fact, as an example, that Huawey is sending personal data from our cellphones to China under the control of the CCP. That's something I'm worried about.
Except, it's not conspiracy theory when EPIC themselves acknowledge it.
Sure, we don't know what they are doing NOW. Doesn't mean they aren't (or are) doing it AGAIN.
And, well, they did do it before, just for money, so we know they are the type of people that do these things for money, you know...
And if you see no problem with the fact that chinese-CCP-closely-related company took major parts of an "all-american looking" company, only to force them to bend to their will and steal personal datas AND concurrent's data on their behalf, you must be living in a heavy artificial paradise world. (...so, share some with the bros
But you're very right on the 1st part, governments are meant for the defense of its people, and they are doing the opposite, the only one that did "something" (and whatever they say, they're NOT a legit governement since they aren't elected) is the EU with the GDPR (and even this has shady bits).
Now you get like half the websites in the united states that are about "journalism" or "news" or "reporting" (by that I mean anything that isn't basically an e-shop) REFUSING to show their webpage when they detect european IP addresses, because they don't want to "submit" to that GDPR (which basically only ask them to have the cookie choice available in 3 clicks or less, and "opt-in" based). What does it say about those sites ? They're either totally incompetent, or it messes with their use of the data they collect. You'd think news outlet would be against that data exploitation, but no, they prefer to throw away EU visitors in the hope they can keep doing their shady
That said, Is there a way for SERVERS to not use the EOS system and rely only on steam ?
even if the server has to be connected to by IP and such ? (I mean, steam worked before, why would it not work anymore, unless someone DID something to break it ?)
It might prevent crossplay, but... that's a sacrifice I am willing to make
Fortunately/Unfortunately I added EOS back to the 'crossplatform=EOS' and my full game and base are back :D :(
OK so is there a way to get rid of EOS without losing my game?
I will say that in the original thread about this the Mod who posted it did say that you could lose any advancement made.
In the OP at the bottom there is Edit 2; did you try whatever it said in the link?
Thanks Amrak for your reply, I tried the advice in Edit 2 (was that there before? I must of skimmed it) and it half worked for me.. as in the game file worked, after EOS was taken out and I edited some of the files in the Player directory (and deleted the steam files) from EOS to steam... (more on this soon in the next paragraph) .. but when loading the game I have my base but inside I noticed that some of my storage crates are now jammed while others have normal access :(
I noticed in the Player folder that there was 3 steam files map/ttp/back but 9 different EOS files with 3 different sets of number (eg.: 34092304723) lines. I deleted the steam ones but copied their file name sequence to the EOS three that was the most recently dated ones. Is that wrong? Do I get rid of those other older dated EOS files?
I'm probably doing it wrong :D
EDIT 1:
4 not 3 different EOS files sets of 3 (map/ttp/bak)
I just went in and changed the cfg. file, then went into my computer services found the EOS running and blocked it from my computer.
Well at least you do not have to deal with EOS anymore. To me if I had had to start a new game I would have gladly! ;D
Thanks for the input regardless :D I intended to stop playing and just save/import/export the base location, hopefully it works, for the next update.
I think I recall reading that the 7DTD saves your "profile" even to MP since I know it did that to my profile character when I went SP to MP with some friends. Changing the crossplatform= probably breaks the game profile you used now and the save associated to that "profile". It might be creating a new "profile". Which is fun cause I think Steam Cloud saves that old profile on its server and now it saved that "old profile" to possibly EOS. But guess someone that knows how such things work will have to explain it to be sure. I havn't reinstalled to test my game to see if I have my old profile or it makes a new one. Not really an issue for me since I tend to start scratch with every patch using the same profile. Well, used to.
