20%

The honey probability in one tree stump is 20%. The probability of that set of 50 results was about 1 in 25000. I suppose If there are 25,000 players today, then...you are that guy.

I went huntin for stumps, couldn't get any honey until after I hit 5.1%+ infection. :/

It's definitely dropped off % wise. Pissed me off at first but, tbh, it's good. Infection needs to be more dangerous and making curatives harder to come by is a good way of ensuring that. Honey should be even rarer imo.

I'm averaging about 1:12 on the stump honey between 3 games saves. It's noticeably less than A19, but nothing that's caused issues yet. I had to limp home twice on Day 3 of my current save to cure infections, but luckily I had 3 in stock.

With the potential for ferals on Day 1 I can see where newer players are going to have infection issues. I haven't gotten jumped twice and beaten badly while looting in many Alphas. It was nice, and reminded me of my Struggle Bus days back when A16 went stable and I bought the game.

Sometimes you go 0 for 20, sometimes you get 3 in a row, RNGesus is a real joker. lol

a19 was 40% drop rate from stumps. TFP felt it was a bit much, and dropped the rate to 20%.
Sprocket66 Dec 26, 2021 @ 10:00pm
The drop rate may be lower but I'm finding a lot more stumps. May just be rng with my map, but stumps are everywhere.
BigRowdy Dec 26, 2021 @ 10:11pm
The drop rate was needed because curing infection was so easy it might as well not have even been in the game. On my hunting days I also go for the stumps. No infections yet with about 4 honey on day 9. Oh and I play the game different, I pretend the trader quest dialog does not exist. I might do quest sheets found in loot. I wont do trader quest unless I start to get bored.

ok. well, good i play with cheatmode on. i nearly died the other day by infection in the first half hour and antibiotics from the trader is 720 coins what is pretty much when you just started

Buff the droprate of Honey
Seriously...after the Antibiotics nerf with the new "Diminishing Infection" system, fighting an infection is EXTREMELY tedious. I looted entire towns that included pharmacys and poppin pills crates to no avail.

As for the "Honey Alternative", the droprate is so insanely low from tree stumps, that when they finally drop, all it did was stall enough time between the next time you manage to actually find honey and I found myself chopping down tree stumps for entire days.

As for the obligatory apologists that always rear their ugly heads on these types of posts, here are my preemptive retorts to your obvious incoming "suggestions".

1. [Just get physician maxed and craft antibiotics!]

I don't have 20 talent points sitting around at the beginning of the game...

2. [Go find a Poppin' Pills Factory!]

If I have to hop from town to town to find a very specific building, by that time the infection is red...

3. [Just kill yourself and respawn!]

That defeats the purpose and "sport" of a survival game and essentially admits that the Infection is too overpowered to treat...

4. [Just don't get hit by zombies!]

Go get hit by a bus IRL...

That'll conclude my primary gripe with the game for now. I'll rant about Dire Wolves some other time :)

Personally I've never had much issue finding honey, there are at least a couple ways to make it fairly easy to not get infected though,

#1 use a spear, it has much further reach then other melee weapons, allowing you to kite away without much risk,

#2 use brawling, with the first point a punch to the head prevents any and all chance of infection from that zombie.

To give a bit of context though, my current save it's day 5, I've got 4 honey, two herbal antibiotics, and a single full antibiotic(on 100% loot), and have only died once so far, to hunger, or rather I got tired of slowly starving to death so I had the character eat glass.

If you want better chances though there's always the loot % option in the game(world) settings, pushing it up will allow you to find more of everything though, and not just honey.

I haven't had a problem as well. The game I am on now is only on Day 8 and I have at least 5 antibiotics of various types. I don't think the low honey drop rate is a problem.
JimmyIowa Dec 27, 2021 @ 1:34am
I haven't had a problem with honey so far in 2 early games (experimental, and stable). The amount of honey in A19 was definitely excessive.

Some advice for OP - Armor helps avoid infection. And getting hit several times in a row is what causes debuffs. After taking one or two hits, back off a bit instead of being 100% aggressive. Try to Stay mobile instead of standing still absorbing many hits.
