Whelp. You don't get to choose what they do or dont put into the game. Also the Twitch stuff was written by one dev, on his off time. For his own group. Turns out, the haters are in the minority because clearly enough people DID want it.

Also the fix would have went in regardless. Whether you downloaded it now, or later in the week with 20.4.

yeah i have to waste my monthly cap, on a company who i refuse to endorce, so i have no choice i have no option but to put up with that lame crap if i want to play 7 days, so sick and tired of having 3rd party companies shoved in my face from games cause they getting paid to do so.
AmFriendly Feb 22, 2022 @ 7:21pm
jeez feels bad i play too have fun not too pay bills

Okay, well... if someone plays single player only, should they complain about their download cap if a small patch is released to fix an issue with multiplayer? Or if they play with zombies turned off, should they complain about their download cap if a small patch is released to fix an issue with zombies?

You can go to the betas tab and set it to Alpha 20.2 if you really want, and then you won't download anything even if the rest of us move on to Alpha 20.3, Alpha 20.4, etc. So you're entitled to your opinion, but to say you have no option is wrong.

That's a good point.
Who on a bandwidth choke chain chooses to buy into development titles that are constantly throwing downloads at you?
Think McFly, think...

I swear, someone comes up with a new complaint each day. Anyway, I also don't care about the twitch stuff, but come on, it probably takes up 100MB total file size as an absolute worst case scenario, and this most recent twitch update was listed as 72KB.
Unless you have internet and a hard drive from 90's I seriously do no see how this is a problem

Maybe you don't know this, but Madmole said that the Twitch "events" part will be used in the new Random Events Manager they're going to add in the future. :meephappy:

i know you chose your words carefully. BUT heres the thing, you talk about alpha this and alpha that, im talking about the fact, people are sick of having these 3rd party site bs shoved in our faces like with this game now twitch stuff, war frame does it with amazon prime, you get a npc email saying free stuff, BUT when you click on it , you are brought to amazon primes page and asked to sign up. other games are slowly adopting this shameless business practice and many are sick of it.

i got this game to kill zombies build bases have fun with friends, i paid for 7 days to die, not lame shill from a company i refuse to endorse.

In 7D2D you're not forced (or solicited) to subscribe to anything AFAIK.
If that was the case I'd agree with you, but this is not what's happening in this game.

I don't sign in to Twitch but so long as my computer isn't broadcasting to Twitch without my permission I don't really care if they patch the thing for it. It can just stay shut off far as I'm concerned for me but if someone else uses it then more power to em.

That kind of has me wondering since I only do single player. It's kind of why I switched off Windows to Linux with the "always on" installs and such for Windows 11 and their push to Microsoft accounts. I really hope that the Twitch events part doesn't tie the single player aspect of this game to an online requirement with Twitch. That would be a dumb idea.

To be very honest. Automatic downloads make no sense to me what so ever. It is a trash policy that consumes power to send electrons around the world that have usually no use. So many of my games patch everyday, and I don't play them. My phone downloads app every day, and as far as I can tell adobe acrobat is the most complicated software ever created that needed updates everyday. In my house of 6 with all steam connected, once a few downloads start and consume bandwidth it affects performance. sure you could say limit the bandwidth. But if you prefer to get the download you want when you want it, you kind of then want it that way. My apple watch complains every night that it couldn't do an update cause something in its list of many demands like my phone not being plugged in yet with 100% battery prevented it. Sorry folks but automatic downloads should be something we stop. Opt in should be the only option. We really don'y need an update everyday, we need you to test your software so the number of bugs is low, so i don't have to download your software 100 times a year. As a software developer I can tell you this thinking is what promotes who cares release it, we can patch it tomorrow thinking. I don't need an update to games like ARK to enable christmas items with a 20Gig download, to then undo christmas items with another 20Gig download. At least 7dtd does this with a 100K upload twice. But why. If you want this, put smarts in the game to do this without having download. These items have been in the game for years, so I am sure there are about 20 downloads to add and remove this. Stupid. Now do I mind a nice update once a year, no. Do I mind an update to fix a major bug, no. But I get really annoyed that everyday I have on average a dozen games to download for no reason. So do I need an update for twitch. no. Do I need an update for multiplayer update for a single player, no.. For others the answer is yes. My point is opt in, and release notes. Too many updates with patch notes coming half a day later. Patch notes go first, and if you don't know why, you don't have a good testing platform. Mature up software industry, you look unprofessional. I can't believe you didn't have one small bug fix to include to appease anyone for having to spend their time getting your software. I'll get over the wasted time here, but I have to comment on what the entire software industry does that feels weak.

I am sure some security guy says we need updates cause of security is just fooling us. Even with the security patch, security needle is really at the same place. That industry is peddling fear with perfectionist thinking.

Steam at least tries and push updates overnight, which is common. I just can't believe this is so crucial. Slow down the updates. Group them up.

Steam > Settings > Automatically Update Game files > No. That's not the exact path but close enough. Problem solved and have a good day.

This thread is about downloading A20.3 and Twitch integration. If people want to rant about other games, companies, and the software industry writ large, I’d ask they do it separately in the Off Topic sub-forum.

When I was talking about "Twitch events" I wasn't talking about on-line events, I'm talking about in-game events (e.g.: all zombies change to have big heads). That code part has nothing to do with actual Twitch and is all local. That mechanics will be leveraged by the new Random Events Manager so that we may have (e.g.) bandits spawn in specific situations, or have a zombie horde spawn when we open the supply crate from the airplane (just some random, pardon the pun, example).

There is ALOT of people who do give a duce about twitch. You can´t ignore that as a game developer.

Also i would assume someone having a monthly cap would turn off automatic updates anyways. I would if i had limited data.
