7 years of alpha and still nothing ?
Let's talk about it

Hi Guys! Been a minute. And look! The game is STILL being developed...haha

I just want to chime in and unequivocally state that the development of this game has been a long journey that still is in progress. I don't think anyone can deny that 8 years is a long time. For some on here, it's probs 3/4 of their entire life... ;-)

Anywho...I just wanted to let everyone know that the game is making great progress and A20 is really going to be something special. After that, realistically, we probably have another year to go and maybe more depending on whether they decide to do some things post-launch or try and get it all in before.

So buckle up because the ride isn't over yet! If you hate this ride then please place one hand over your mouth and raise your other hand and we will let you get off. If you are loving the ride then the good news is that exciting developments are still ahead and no matter what anyone might say to try and discourage the team into just finishing the game and calling it done the way it is, we are going to do it all in our sweet slow done-when-it's-done way.

You're right, my 1100+ hours of entertainment is "nothing" lmao

I'm enjoying nothing. And about once a year we're getting a slightly different version of nothing with each new Alpha to keep the game interesting.
With over 1800 hours of time into nothing, safe to say I got my $$ worth. Looking forward to the next version of nothing in A19.

People have been bringing up "too long in Alpha" ever since 2015 when it hit its 2-year anniversary in Early Access. All the accusations of "dishonest devs" "lazy devs" "incompetent devs" "uncaring devs" "disorganized devs" etc etc etc were all made way back then and it turns out we were barely into it. Here we are now an additional five years beyond that time and the same exact pointless dialogues are happening.

Obviously, all of this talk about nothing has zero effect on how quickly or slowly the game is developed. "It's done when it's done!" is the only answer TFP has for those who wonder when it will be over. The journey is a ride that you either enjoy or don't. If the destination is all you care about then wait for it.

“And still nothing” is nothing short of insulting. There have been massive improvements to the game in the last 7 years. There are many things to complain about with the current game (which is still one of the best games out there), but not progress’ is not one of them.

I can only conclude you are a troll. Or edit your post or clarify what the heck you mean.

The amount of effort put into the OP?

I wouldn't say nothing myself. I've kept myself occupied pretty nicely with the game. That said, Alpha 18 has been the least played version for me because the terrain seem locked to a specific pattern and I can't get it as random as I used to like in Alpha 16 and such. Gets kind of old playing in remakes of the pre-fab map that's slightly random but not completely.

One of the top 100 played games on steam for several years running = "nothing". Uh huh.

Weaksauce. :D

Have you tried Nitrogen to generate maps instead? A lot of users swear by it.

With that level of logic, World of Warcraft is 'made by lazy developers with no intention of finishing the game'. It's still a work in progress, and has been for a long time, and that's fine, because you can enjoy what's here.
