how to deal with detonator zombies...
i understand you arent supposed to hit them in the chest, but im playing with 2 other people one of which doesnt have the best aim. any base designs that deal with them properly? every single horde night we have been booted out of the base because demolishers will break in. theyre kind of ridiculous imo.

There are traps that won't set them off... blade traps, dart traps. Turrets of every kind are notorious for hitting their trigger, though. Shooting them in the legs if you can't manage clean head shots may take a few more bullets, but they won't detonate if you do that. Just pay attention when they stand up because they always twist to one side. Grenades and pipe bombs won't set them off either which makes doing pit trap bases a lot of fun... they fall in, you blow them to heck. It's lovely. However, take care with how large you make your pit since flailing zombies can hit them in the chest and set them off when they're really close together. Also, prepare your pit for the fact that their fists do mighty damage.. I always make my walls 2 or 3 layers thick and same for the floor. Grenades and pipe bombs don't do lots of block damage, but even that small amount of damage will add up over a long hoard night. Everything wrapped in steel, and you've got fun and xp for days.

Do be aware that most folks do NOT fight hoards in the same base they use for home! Home and crafting bases just need to be strong enough to withstand some screamer hoards and wandering hoards (NOT the Blood Moon!) so maintaining them is not going to be a huge time/material sink. A smaller, well designed hoard base makes upkeep easy, cheap, fast... so you have more time to do the fun stuff like ganking zombies and looting!

Khissi said it all, but here is a tip from me:
- It will not detonate, if you kill it. Even if the detonation timer is on. Just give the guy the strongest weapon with the best ammo type, and let him rain chaos. Also move his shooting post closer to a borderline with the zombies.

Your player with poor aim could take up a position where they can shoot the zombies in the back. That’s one of the key advantages to playing multiplayer in my view: not every zombie is coming for you in particular, and you can take advantage of that. In single player, it takes a more involved base design to get zombies to turn their backs to you.
I had 6 detonate in my base in one horde night and it was still functional with only a few blocks missing.

I'm also a ♥♥♥♥ shot! lol

Best solution..... = STEEL!

If you shoot one and it arms, then shoot the explosive device on his chest again, it will disarm.

Since no one has mentioned it, and it seems highly relevant to your situation - make sure your friend is using AP (armor piercing) ammo. It makes a BIG difference in how many hits it takes to kill an armored opponent. And Demo guys are heavily armored.

That's a joke right?

I believe this is incorrect. I did some testing on this. I used a level 4 AK with semi-auto mod. Spawned in Demos one at a time, and got one head shot on them before they turned around. HP ammo consistently gave 104 damage while the AP ammo only gave 74. I've read that the only benefit AP has right now is penetrating more than one zombie, and that the armor penetration wasn't working at this time.

I've heard that if you set up sledge turrets at a lower height so they strike up at the legs it won't set off demolishers since it doesn't reach the chest. Can anyone confirm?

Nope, I do it all the time. I rarely see them explode. It takes aim, and timing. You have to be fast about it, I don't always succeed. Electric fences help..and they barely scratch steel walls, should you miss.

You mean by killing the demolisher or that the bomb just stops and the demolisher keeps on walking??

This has been fixed in the latest versions of A19... (maybe still in experiential.) and the extra damage for AP rounds is now included.
eg: i'm peaking up to 700 kills per horde night now using ap rounds, whereas it was only 5-600 kills previous.

Also there's a bottle of moonshine (forgot the name) that does 50% more ranged damage that can help dispatch demos faster.

edit :

A19.4 b1-b3
Fixed
AP rounds not working as expected

Yeah, my numbers are for 19.3 stable. AP rounds were supposedly fixed in 19.1 too, so hopefully fixed for real this time.

And it's Recog. I haven't figured out what that is supposed to mean in relation to better range damage. Sadly, I can make it but usually forget to take it.
yeah thxs! recog.... and yes.. only just started experimenting with it myself.
it seems to cut them* down faster....
But have yet to do a whole night with more than 1 recog for a maximum effect and kill count.

* radiated wrights, solders, bikers, cops and the standard demo's

Pretty sure wrights and cops are not shielded so hollow points would do more damage.
