Are ladders & 2nd floors a cheese strat?
My friend and I have recently started playing and came across a building that had a ladder not attached to the ground. We could easily climb up it by jumping, but none of the zombies were able to follow. We replicated this design in our base and the first blood moon was a literal cake walk. We just sat on the 2nd floor and shot them underneath us.

I don't really like cheese strats as I think they make the game boring, but my friend doesn't want to abandon this strategy. Will things change later on? I'm thinking of sabotaging our house without him knowing so zombies can find a way to the roof or something.

The first blood moon is meant to be a cakewalk. Later on if the zombies can't find a path to you they start tearing down the walls.

I don’t think this is a cheese strat at all, since given enough time they could break down the entire building your in, especially in later horde nights. What I consider cheese strats to be is anything that seriously exploits the game in some way that will most likely include glitches or bugs. Other wise, everything is fair game

Not letting the zombies into your base is not a cheese strat.

Just wait until the big burly guys with bombs strapped to their chest show up...

There was a time when this was cheesy, because the AI pathing was lacking and zombies had nothing productive to do in this situation. But now they should attack the blocks holding up your second floor. Like others are saying, withstanding a horde doesn't necessarily mean your base is cheesy. Withstanding every horde with no effort is a different matter, in this player's opinion.

Things will change later but my suggestion is if you're using the strategy build a building close to your base but don't use your base for a horde night. Let the zombies beat up and destroy that building and not your base.

If you want to "play fair" with the zombies so you are not cheesing them, stand naked in a field without any weapon. After all zombies can't equip weapons and armors and cannot build....

I'm developing a permanent horde base but while I'm doing so I use selected buildings using minimal materials and resources. So, now, my luck is running out because on night 42 the demo guys started turning up. My game level now is high enough to bring out the demo guys and I am getting hit by large numbers of screamers around my home base in-between horde nights. Do what ever you need to do to survive. If a strat seems cheesy, do it, it may save your life in the end, after all this is a zombie survival game.

building up high is pretty much the only strategy late game. This is why I think a small percentage of the demo zombies should be able to fly.

I disagree. The zombies aren't naked, well maybe half naked for the party girl, but anyway no reason for you to be.

You understand this was a joke right.... People say everything is cheese as soon as they use any mechanics the game give them.

Don't worry. As others have already mentioned, the demolition zombies will soon arrive and curdle your friend's cheese. As you are laying in the rubble of what used to be your 2nd floor safe haven, concussed from the bomb blasts, with broken or sprained limbs and zombies crawling all over you chewing on different parts of your bodies, I think it will become clear. :spazwinky:

Seriously, though - the ladder trick is great to use in conjunction with other strategies for funneling / herding of zombie hordes, to allow your team an escape or efficient method to change up positions during a heavy combat situation. My friends and I use them a lot as ways to get back up to relative safety if we accidentally fall down into the hungry mob, decide to go in and melee for a while, or just as effective means to get to a fall back position or up to a location we might have stashed additional stores (like ammo). It doesn't have to be full "cheese" to be an effective strategic element to utilize, so I wouldn't discount it entirely.

Right now I'm using 2nd floor Dance Studio as a horde base. I don't even bother fixing things up outside of wood frames since the structure filters them up to me at the dance studio in a trickle fasion. Worse comes to worse i get trader missions till I get one for that structure and it self repairs from the mission start.
