how long does it take to generate a world?

i just bought this game, i hit start, and its been like 10 minutes doing various things like generating towns to where i came here. is it stuck or is this actually how long it takes every time

i9 11980, gtx 3080 so hardware shouldnt be a problem...

I have not generated a world before but I seem to remember hearing that it could take almost an hour.

depends on the size. bigger can take a pretty good time. i think my last 8km x 8km was like 30+ minutes that being said once it's generated it wont take near that long to load each time yo jump into the world.

It seems to take 10-30 mintues depending on your rig and the size of the world being generated. With my previous rig i5-4690/gtx970 it took about 20 minutes for an 8k map. My current system (i9-10700/rtx3070) it's around 10 mitnutes.


These maps are huge, and there is a LOT in them. But one of the things the devs are focusing on for A20 is a much better RWG system, with faster map creation.

On hardware that meets the Minimum hardware requirements, making an 8k map takes on average 50-60 minutes.
On hardware that meets the Recommended hardware requirements, making an 8k map takes on average 15-25 minutes.

R7 260X 2GB, FX-6300 4.1GHz and 16GB RAM - 93-95 minutes. If your hardware is better than that then it'll probably take around an hour lmao

To add, this is only the initial creation and load. Once the map is generated, future save file loads and log ins go much quicker.

13 minutes to generate a 4K map for me - I’ve been making a lot of them recently. So your results sound typical. Also be aware that this is a... let’s say known inconvenience and a major area of optimization for the next alpha.

you can use a 3rd party map generator and jsut move it into ur game files. that takes 30 seconds instead. you can also see your map, and generate it until you find something you like with a lot of adjustable settings. (nitrogen) works on latest game version, been playing a world from it the past week)

kinggen is a better choice than nitrogen.

nitrogen has not been updated since before a19 first went stable and the modder has moved on to other projects.

kinggen is newer and has active development and is updated for 19.6.

Yup, map generation takes a really long time in this game. Go and make yourself a snack or tab out or something while it's generating (tabbing out will probably make it take longer). Once it's all done, though, you don't have to worry about it again.
