Suggestion: add Kelvin to the temperature options
Celcius is aquacentric and probably racist, and Fahrenheit makes no sense because it's based on brine. Kelvin is the best temperature scale because it's based on Absolute Zero, the point at which all matter freezes.

Celcius is racist? That's a new one.
Armitage Shanks Jan 8, 2021 @ 3:18pm
Anders Celcius was Swedish and white, so in these brave postmodern times we can probably assume that the temperature scale named after him is racist by association.

But that is neither here nor there. Kelvin is best.

I mean sure why not add kalvin, but I doubt many people will use it as I’m pretty sure most people are accustomed to Celsius/kalvin. So don’t get your hopes up too high.
Saying Celsius is racist is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s not like Celsius discriminates against anyone now does it? I also highly doubt the creator of it was racist either. Even if he was, Celsius is still a useful tool for measuring temperature

I just want to promote the use of Kelvin. It is objectively the best temperature scale, but sadly is also the least used. These are dark times we are living in.

Also, don't be too certain that the Celcius scale is not racist. The world has become a very strange place. Allegedly, the following are now racist: mathematics, milk, peanut butter, golf, the countryside, chess, the term "master bedroom", cycling, craft beer, Covid-19, classical music, not being racist, and many more.

I think we should just assume that everything is racist and get on with our lives. There's no need to argue if we're all in agreement.

But anyway, we were discussing the Kelvin scale.

This thread is going down the path to a “prone to huge arguments” thread, which is against the rules. I formally ask that users stay on the topic of the Kelvin scale. Further discussion or reference to racism in this thread will risk moderator action.

To be honest, I think I've done all I can here to raise awareness of Kelvin. Can you believe most people don't even know it exists? I just think that if the option to use Kelvin were more common, then it might one day become mainstream alongside Celcius and Fahrenheit.

That is a world I would like to live in.

Kelvin is pretty awful at defining the human experience, far worse even than Celsius. Fahrenheit is the best at describing the human experience- We can feel the difference between 50f, and 51f, but can't really tell the difference in half a degree of change in fahrenheit; But that same change in celsius is 10 to 10.555~, and that same change in kelvin is 283.15 to 283.706.

If you need decimals to differentiate a temperature that humans are experiencing, you're doing it wrong.

Celsius is great for precise measurement- Kelvin is great for scientific usage, but neither is particularly apt for the human experience, and neither was designed FOR the human experience.

With that said, having kelvin added probably wouldnt be a hard thing to do....I just question the need for it when the range of temperatures in game is like, 30 to 90. which is 272.039 to 305.372 kelvin.

(Edit: I was typing out this whole reply and Crater sent his message while I was at it; So I'll edit out what was below here.)

De gustibus non est disputandum.

Many people enjoy sauerkraut, reality TV, and the sound of the accordion. We live in a world of options, but Kelvin is rarely one of them. I am attempting to address this discrepancy.

And while I understand that, Simply put, you're arguing to make a more non-intuitive form of measurement commonplace- A spoon CAN be used to cut through a steak, But it's a rather dumb way of doing it; So would you then argue that spoons are rarely used as a form of cutlery when eating a steak? (Or, if you think spoon is too much of a stretch, then, butter knife.)

Kelvin is great- It has it's place, it has it's uses. General human society is not one of those places, It's far too granular and encompasses a scale so massive that most can't even fathom a fraction of it, let alone the scale in it's entirety. Most people don't understand or fully comprehend the concept of 'absolute zero', But they do understand normal 0 in fahrenheit or celsius as '♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cold'.

Fair enough. I didn't expect to change any minds. This is a Sisyphean struggle, but I'm going to continue advocating for Kelvin. It has become my life's purpose.

I rate this the weirdest discussion of the year so far.

I mean I see no harm in adding kelvin, but I will never, ever select that option. Lets just go to walmart and buy a kelvin thermometer. Oh right, we can't.
elvendualwielder Jan 8, 2021 @ 5:19pm
So by the OP's logic, we should calculate distance by spans and leagues, weight by grams, and damage by joules.
The devs could add it in, but why? What does this add to the experience by using units of measurement most aren't familiar with, can't easily visualize and are in increments that are useless to know for the sake of being as precise as possible? Last I checked this wasn't a lab where that level of precision is necessary or even possible in the first place without extremely forgiving circumstances.

I thought "Hey Amazon has like everything!", but then couldn't find any there.

Found some here...

@Armitage Shanks: Look up after whom the Kelvin temperature scala is named!

And one degree Celsius and one Kelvin are the same. The only thing both temperature scales differ in are where they "start" to count with zero. The temperature range people normally experience are in the lower Celsius range. It would add a lot of clutter and inconvenience to permanently subtract 273 to know what it means. Most people don't use this scale for good reason. It may be suitable for scientific use, but it is not suited for day to day use. I don't agree that it is "superior" for a game.

If you really need it this way how aboput modding it?

I bet there are some windmills you can slay on your way to victory.

I agree. First I thought this must be a troll.
