Brawling Worth It?
Is brawlng/unarmed worth it over blunt? And at what level do you start to feel confident with it?

Tried just one level and it feels kind of pitiful. To be fair I only have one level and no brawling weapon but I just want to know if it's worth the dump or if I should stick to bats.

EDIT: Bad wording, lol. Sorry guys.

Melee with Bleed-sneek-criticalhit Build is nice, but its more like hit-run-hit and if you to far away you dont get XP for the Kill.

And the first early Melee weapon is a Bone Knife, switch later to a Machete.

Pretty much this exactly. It's hard to go toe-to-toe but awesome at cheap ganks on sleepers. Nice when paired with a bow, you can usually get a knockdown chest shot and close in with the knife while theyre down.

If the original post is about Brawling (fists), then I haven't had the guts to try it since melee (fighting close up, like with weapons or not) feels very fragile with the new critical injury system (you'll be fine, until you're suddenly infected, exhausted, broken limbs, etc). I don't mind fighting with a Bat or Sledge, since they knock stuff down and let me recalibrate my surroundings or just finish the Z while it's down. I've tried melee or kiting with the knife, that was alright too.

I think the main lesson for melee fighting in A19 is to keep the Z from hitting you. Find a doorway, block it with a wood frame or wood hatch, and swing at the Zs just after they land a hit on the block.

Brawling does very little damage, a lot of its kill speed is from popping heads, so maybe wait until you've collected some of the Brawling Books, and ranked up the Brawling perk a bit, and maybe wait until you've found a Steel Knuckle first.

When i play unmodded i almost always go knife and pistols. I would suggest using heavy armor if you are gonna play melee, saves you from alot of infections, broken bones and whatever the game throws at you.

Fists with beer might have the strongest raw DPS of any melee, but I can't get passed the pitiful range, and I'd rather 1 shot a zombie at a slower firing rate than 2-3 shot a zombie at a faster firing rate, because the stun animations rob me of hits.

OP should clarify the question... Blunt IS melee. The opposite of melee would be ranged, but I'm guessing the question is if blades/fist/spear/sledge is worth it over blunt. In any of those, I'd say the answer is yes, depending on personal preferences and playstyles but personally I'll take clubs any day.

I would wait until you can put 2-3 points in whatever the skill line is. Level 15-20 is a good range.

I usually go Brawler with the Leather Wraps (Exclusively, No knuckles for me). You can usually get a Purple before 20 (maybe as early as 10) so slot in 4 mods (Weighted Head, Rad Remover, Structural and I forget the fourth, but its hilt graphic). With Sexual Tyran and Flurry of Blows you can really rock.

Bear in mind, your armor, armor skills should also be kept up.

Keep a gun for emergencies. Maybe an AK, but any gun is usually good, depending on your stats.

^This is the bottom line - the game is playable with any combination of skills or weapons - it all comes down to personal preference, which I feel is one of the game's greatest strengths. There is no One Right Way to play.

For me, sure the spear has its drawbacks but after trying every other weapon in the game, I'll never give it up. Power melee just isn't that important to me personally. I'd rather go without and have the combination of extra reach and knockdown power.
