Food models
Please devs, i dont know if its on the agenda but this game is ancient. do you think you guys could finally add models for food while holding it in your hand please o please! currently it looks like cardboard covered in ♥♥♥♥ or blood or something. i dont understand if thats intentional? but a can of soup should look like a can of soup.

It’s intentional. There used to be separate in-hand art for different foodstuffs, but they were cut for performance. So it’s less a matter of being an “ancient” game than a matter of optimization.

That happened several alphas ago, and food items have had an overhaul since then. If we’re lucky, perhaps it’s close enough to a finished state that the developers could go back and redo them now in an efficient way. They haven’t announced any such plans though, to my knowledge.

But surely they update the food models eventually? Even if it was an after EA sorta thing. It would just just give the game that bit of polish and to be honest, the currents models do look like place holders

What we have now seems to serve its purpose. Again, I hope they'll do more art eventually, but if it's got to be one thing for everything, it seems to me the square of burlap is as good a model as anything else would be.

From things I've read on the forums, making things "more realistic" (graphics in general) is being set aside (for now) to work on game functionality, features. Additionally: things like individual models take time to work on, and take up memory/resources, which may also explain if they never updated them (and they want to keep the minimum requirements to run the game stable). Another reason is they seem to be continually "simplifying" things to put "fun game play over realism" for quite awhile so if the standard generic model works, they likely will leave it.

However: I do agree the models are needed. Its weird as some things have models and others don't. I feel that if they don't update the game officially to support more models., modders will do it after the game is "stable" and goes gold. Then if your system can handle the overhead of the models you can load the mods while others who cannot run it well can leave them out.
