RWG Seed names
When making a random gen world does it matter what I type in for the seed? Typing in random things give different world names. Are these worlds places that people in the past have generated?

World names that it gives for your seed means literally nothing. Its just to try and make it seem like a real county in arizona where the game takes place. The rest is normal rwg stuff based off your seed. If you seed is 1234567 and someone else typse in 1234567 then they will generate the exact same geography as in your world.

We have a thread in the Survivor Stories sub-forum If you’re interested in trying seeds others have used, and sharing your own.

So does this mean that most common named seeds are already created and that the game rarely generates a brand new seed for someone?

If you choose a common seed name like 123 then yes, it's statistically likely that someone else has played that world before. But the game doesn't maintain some central repository of already generated worlds and send the data to you when your seed is a repeat. Such a hypothetical repository would need a ton of storage space. So it generates the world locally, unless it already exists on your computer.

Is there a way to create a random seed that you know will be unique from scratch or does it not really matter?

It's not clear why you ask.

If you want to make sure you don't waste time generating a world that already exists, then don't worry about it. If you try to generate the same seed a second time, it won't let you. The generated world name will turn red with the tooltip "The specified random world already exists," and the start button will be grayed out.

If you want to make sure that nobody has ever played on your world before - that you are looking at a truly never-before-seen world - then I guess you're just going to have to be creative with your seed names. Again, there's no database of all the worlds that have ever been generated. I mean they might track what seed names people use in A19 forward, using the Game Sparks analytics data they collect now. But it takes a long time to generate a map, so nobody's going to bother generating another person's world without a reason.
