Still no way to turn off night ambiance sounds?
I found only old threads about this so i'm asking here again.
Is there still no way to turn off the creepy ambience sounds at night?
I like to make my sound as immersive as i can with turning the music off and just having sounds that have an actual source/representation in the game.
At night i just get these random spooky sounds and it really kills the immersion for me.
Is there still no way to get rid of these beside replacing the sound files or otherwise mod the game?
It's very strange to me that these sounds don't count as music and get turned off with it..

yeah, i agree. theres prob no way to turn it off. I would count it as music. I like just the wind blowing and footsteps.
Yeah and it makes it hard to hear enemies around you as well.

I remember the first few releases with the night ambience, I thought the sounds were events going on in the world lol

I used to think one of them meant that zombies were stalking somewhere nearby at a building, or in a circle in the forest or something having a blood sacrifice or something strange. Always made me stay in base even if the night was quiet.

Yeah i started playing again after several years and was very confused by it.
Then i started searching for a solution and found various threads about it and how to mod the game to remove that sounds.
But i'm really confused that the devs still didn't add something to just turn them off.
It's really annoying to me.

It's funny because these night sound were removed from the game for quite some time, and only returned since the current alpha I believe ? That's probably why you only found old thread about that.

At the time, there were also people complaining that it got removed, that night felt too silent/not scary anymore etc.

Would be an easy way to make them optional so everyone is happy

Exactly. What's interesting in perfect silence...

And mayb people did not notice but, just go out there at night in the wood or a town or wherever. Perfect silence is not a thing. Stuff creaks, moves, shuffle around in the distance. Animals howl, the wind blows.

If your hearing was limited to the immediate 20 feets around you i could understand.

I had posted a complaint about the strange musical interludes and loud odd sound effects that would just occur at night and drown out a lot of other noise, all for the misguided sake of creating some kind of tension or drama. I suppose you can't fault the thought, but execution was just not good. Particularly for those of us who use stealth builds!

So, anyhow, the result of that thread was this: disable ambient sounds in the audio settings for the game. It gets rid of all that ridiculous night music and strange "ambiance" sound effect business, but you still keep local sounds like rustling through grass / trash, zombie footsteps, etc. I'd suggest trying that out, assuming you haven't already done that of course. Made a world of difference for me when creeping through the woods or clearing POIs at night.

Would be cool if one of the noises was triggered by a gas that randomly spawns and drifts around. Indestructable, causes serious damage over time. When you hear that sound you would look around a bit scared, making sure its not drifting by.

Wouldn't that also get rid of rain sound and something like that?

I thought it would, which was why I never turned it off. But it just seems to be the odd ambiance sounds, not actual world sounds. I still hear everything else with it turned off.

Just tried this. It turns off ALL ambient sounds, including music stings, crickets, rain, etc. There is still no way to turn off the immersion-destroying, ear-splitting music stings. Also, someone above said to "just go out into the woods and listen to the sounds"...well I did that too and not once did I hear instrumental "EEEEERRHHHOUUUUAAAUUUWOOOOMMMM" sounds splitting the night. Peculiar.

There really need to be separate ambience and "atmospheric scary night sounds" volume sliders.

There is a mod with an edited resources.assets file that silences the annoying nighttime sounds. it currently works for A20.5b2. Silence is golden. Devs should provide a way to turn this off in game.

I was looking for this. Where can I find it? Thanks. edit: I found it

So I found two, one doesn't work, and the other doesn't remove all of them, but it removes the most obvious, annoying tracks. Not bad.
