My FPS is locked at 30. Help, please.
Ryzen 5
8 RAM
1650
Windows 10

I'm playing on a 60hz laptop. My other games get 60 fps just fine. 7 Days won't go above 30. Both high and low settings are at 30. I've tried vsync on/off and messed with the nvidia settings but it's still stuck at 30, even in menu. Any ideas?

I turned vertical sync to 'on' in the nvidia settings and now I get 60 fps in the menu but still capped at 30 in game. I also tried setting the GPU to the integrated graphics and still no change.

Edit: Turned out the laptop throttles fps when not plugged. Getting 60 fps when hooked to power.

More specific details are needed, but you've probably got a pretty weak CPU since it's a laptop.
Other games aren't 3D Voxel games will fully destructible terrain, structural integrity calculations on every block, or a complex AI. Other games only really care that you have a decent GPU. 7 Days will tax your entire package.

If you can give much more specific details on your hardware, we can give you better information.

Also note that you're at the Min Spec for RAM, so you're going to want to shut down most other software and background applications before you fire up the client.

It's a ryzen 5 4600H
GTX 1650

I know the cpu isn't incredible but when I say it's capped at 30 I mean it doesn't go above or below it, no matter the video settings. It's not dipping into the 10s or bouncing around in the 20s. I even switched the GPU to the amd integrated graphics and I am still getting 30 frames.

Ok, so it's a newer entry-level laptop. Probably very similar to this HP Pavilion[www.amazon.com].

I mean, at least HP didn't slap the Alienware sticker on it and charge you double, but it's not really a gaming PC.

30FPS seems a little odd though. You should be able to hit 60FPS. What are your settings configured to?

Yep, that's my laptop. The video settings are to lowest (tried high and was still getting 30), vsync off, dynamic resolution off. In the invidia settings I changed max fps to 1000 and set vertical sync to on, and power management to maximum performance.

As far as i'm aware this is an old bug that happens to some specs but never got fixed, maybe because this is a rare situation and difficult to pin point the cause.

OP have you tried to force the fps cap like 'settargetfps 60' in the game console ?

Is your dynamic resolution off?
Have you tried launching the game in a smaller screen size? Something like 1024x768?

Yes, dynamic resolution is off. So get this...I launched the game with the resolution you suggested and my fps was at 60. Nice. So I bumped the res back up to 1920 and I'm still getting 60. Very nice. I exited the game and restarted with the normal 1920 and...still getting 60 fps. Very, very nice. So the problem appears to be solved but I have no idea why. All I did was change the resolution and change it back. Thanks for the help!

That’s a head scratcher, but I’m glad you got it fixed. :steamhappy:

On other games, sometimes after installing them I have to leave fullscreen, and then alt+enter back into fullscreen to get appropriate performance. Stupidly enough, Binding of Isaac is one of the games that makes me do that. The only thing I consider "low end" is my GPU. a 1660 Super from MSI. I have a 3700x and 64gb of ram on a x570 mobo (also from MSI.) I haven't ever run into the issue in 7DTD though.
