Better ways to mark POIs instead of using the paint brush
I'm basically wanting to find better solutions to mark explored POIs. I know you can mark points on the map, but the icons available aren't incredibly varied and I also don't want a map full of markers for every POI I search. The other option I could think of was using paint, but having to carry around paint and the brush separate takes up much needed inventory space.

In the future I was thinking there could be a bit of item progression here, where you could eventually make/find spray paint cans that can stack and then lead to a paint gun that is reloadable. These options could be made to only paint colors or shapes, so you don't completely remove the need for the brush.

For now, though, does anyone have any recommendations on how to easily and noticeably mark a POI that I've searched so I don't waste time entering homes I've already ransacked?

couple of wood frames in the front yard

I do the map-marker routine myself, but I'll mark all the buildings first, then remove the marker once it's cleared. Doesn't really solve the issue; just front loads everything first.Once the map is clear of markers, its time to move on.

Alternately you could make a mental note to only approach buildings from street side, and smash the front doors / windows out. This way at a glance just from running past you'll know it was emptied.

i was hoping to keep that to a minimum, because my random gen map is pretty dense and it'll look horrible, but that might be my only option :(

Marking them ahead of time is a good idea. But the issue going street side is I really like the dungeon crawl aspect of the POIs, so I rarely go in through the front door. I probably should just smash it out anyways

Hey the paint brush thing is actually kinda brilliant, that never occurred to me!

I'll sometimes put a wood frame near the front door, or even just break open the door or a front window since that is usually enough to indicate I've been there.

I put a chest on the street, roughly aligned with the entrance. The primary purpose is to have a place to dump items while doing a quest in that POI, but it also marks that I've been in there. Once I'm using vehicles, I'll pretty much always approach a POI from the road, even though I'll head to the intended entry point from there.

When I make a mine shaft, I build a couple wooden blocks above the surface. I attach the ladder to one side, a torch to another side for visibility, and I put a big sign on a third side to label which resources are in the mine. You could do something similar for POIs.

Put a frame over the main entrance door. That is what I do to mark trailer park houses I've already been to.

Yep, I use frames. I always do No Respawn in solo play so, once I clear a place, there's no reason to return. I put one wooden frame either out in the driveway, over the door, or anywhere that I know I'll recognize it later on.
My sister places down a wooden arrow in the front door, then paints it a bright yellow (one brush stroke).

She loves painting, and I'm happy to supply her the paint.

Yeesh brother, that's intricate.

i put a torch in front of the building towards the road to mark places i've cleared. but marking them with a waypoint and being able to sort waypoints would be nice

Destroy the mailbox or the front door.

I use 2 frames. I put one down when I initially loot it (I play with no respawn) and then a second one on top when I go back after I have the more brass perk.

I always just plop a wood frame down on the edge of the street/road in front of a POI after I've looted it out.

If you have paint and a brush you can mark houses, but it's a waste of 2 slots in your inventory
