I think they're wasting time finessing the way zombies look. They're basically hard baking monotony into zombies. I would rather see random characters in fixed animations or effects. Special class of random zombies, etc.
This would breath a great deal of life into the dead. Even with fixed animations, they can flip the animation skeleton coordinated left and right and double the animation variety in numerous circumstances.
