Hammers and Hunting Knives
It's that time again for this guy to ask a dumb question everyone else probably already knows.

Been finding a lot of good loot recently including a level 6 hunting knife and a level 4 claw hammer. I was excited at first, but then I started to wonder if they even benefit from gaining higher levels.

So today's dumb question is; Do claw hammers and hunting knives benefit from higher levels? I'm not talking greater damage and durability. I'm purely talking about upgrading blocks and harvesting carcasses respectively. Because I know claw hammers always upgrade blocks in 2 swings regardless, but do they get faster at swinging? Same with hunting knifes. Do they harvest more, get faster, both or does the level matter?

Thanks in advance.

Hunting knives, I believe their damage will harvest the body or animal faster just like a pick will break a door fast or take more hp out of the iron node with higher damage.

Claw hammers dont really benefit from anything because their only use is as part of crafting and nothing modifies the amount of times you need to hit sometihng to upgrade it.

Hunting knives do, higher damage equals fewer hits to get the ssme amount of meat. Hammers though... That's a good question. Unless you use it for melee, its the same no matter the quality.

Actually, maybe it does make a difference. Upgrading a block takes 2 hits, but repairing is another matter. Fixing a damaged concrete block can take many taps.

That makes sense. Just wanted to double check to be safe. Thanks for the help.

Clawhammer gets also bonus dmg from tier 2-6 by 10% -> 50%. You can increase the Entity and Block damage with "Miner 69" Perk. And a LV6 hammer has 4 Slots, filling a Slot with any mod increasing Entity&Block Damage by additional 10% per Mod.

Also more mod slots

I think the question is, is there a point to more damage on a claw hammer? Is anyone intentionally using it for combat or block damage?

no i think not ...an maxed out claw hammer is about 24-30damage. idk if this is worth it ^^. but every weapon/tool gets more dmg with mods.

with the exception of the nail gun. I kinda think the hammer should be the same, OR let us mod the nail gun.

Edit - the nail gun at least has a tiny bit of usefulness as a weapon.

I believe RasaNova is correct, in that different hammers repair different amounts of HP per swing. It would be nice if there were some mods that really mattered for hammers and the like, though. Faster swings, fewer resources to upgrade a block, quicker concrete drying time... off the top of my head, a number of things would be useful.

The hunting knife, don’t forget, is a capable weapon as well as a harvest tool if you spec into it like anything else.

the hammer used to be a better tool than the stone axe for harvesting stone and a good weapon very early game, but in A18 they nerfed the attack speed, so yeah, at the moment they're only good for building/repair and selling
