Zombie life in open world
Are they ever going to add zombies back to the open world? I forget which version had them maybe A16? Is that right?
The world is basically dead as is with 1-2 zombies popping into existence every so many meters.
The version i remember was anytime you started travelling into a town of any size you had to be careful because there would be zombies and critters roaming around all over.

Is there a mod that brings that back into A19?
or
Can i just simply edit a few xmls to bring them back.

The life of the game is just dead as is. Ive never heard of a zombie era where every zombie was asleep in houses.....

Hey mate, i agree.

Thats why i have made a server for the people (and me :D) that has xml files modified.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/251570/discussions/2/2843417619885344644/

Check this out! Up to 6x more zombies in night in certain biomes (you can change, biome, day and night count etc - which i did :) )

Regards!

I only play singleplayer but thanks for the invite.
Could you post your spawn settings?

<spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="0.3" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesAll" />

I assume i can just edit that number. Anyone know a good number that wont create super lag but also increase spawns a good bit?

I see zombies all over, wandering around. More and more as my gamestage increases. And the occasional zombie horde as they stumble along on their way to a friend's house or pool party or something (I'm just guessing, no idea where those crazy undead bastards are headed to in such a hurry)...

That said, it could use a tweak if you wanted it to definitely be a more densely populated map. I've done it with the XML file ages ago, just tinkered till I got it figured out. There are also some mods that increase spawn rates (I play Darkness Falls a lot, it has a seriously ramped up zombie spawn rate, and even higher rate at night).

Yeah, there are definitely zombies in the wilderness when I play. They are everywhere.

My seed zombieworld i'm getting hordes every few days in middle of nowhere had 3 Screamers in one horde that was fun as my zombie settings are run all time mode.

Here's a thread for modding the XML's yourself in A19. It's pretty easy once you know what to look for, so this should help a lot.

I changed each biome max count spawn to 12 instead of 1. Immediately noticed the difference. Although the spawning is re-tarded lol. Basically every chunk or whatever is now guaranteed to have 12 or so zombies spawn pretty much on top of each other and they GPS right towards you basically.
Wish the spawns were more dynamic so it would feel a bit more real instead of load this "chunk" get exactly this many zombies in the exact same group fashion.

The devs also wish the spawns could be more dynamic. However, this is affects performance...hence the compromise of zombies spawning per chunk.

Project Zomboid does a very good job with zombie spawns and migrations. But Project Zomboid isn't a fully destructible voxel-based world either.

Tit for tat and all of that.

Yea I too miss the days it was really dangerous to head to towns. I get that they had to tone it down with the early game but now it's become a breeze. That's why I edit my xml files to increase wandering hordes. I personally don't like playing with Blood moon cause I don't like how they can track you where ever you are. I'd rather it be random and for them to attack somewhere else instead of where I am. But I get people enjoy horde nights so i'm glad there's options.

I like the randomness of the game and it always has me coming back with each update. I like there to be a ton of zombies in towns and such or in the wilderness but I also like my relaxing days to farm and build up my defences.

Off topic.
How come the crafting menu does not show all possible things? It makes you search for it instead? Wasnt that the whole idea for favorite list? To be able to see everything and narrow down your own list?

You’ve identified precisely the problem the developers face: quantity versus performance :bummer:. With sleeper zombies in POIs here to stay and taking up some of those limited spots, the thinking has been that outdoor populations won’t go back to A14 levels again.

But there are at least two rays of hope. One, in the current A19 they’ve removed the respawn delay for zombies in the wasteland biome specifically. So there are effectively nonstop zombies there. And two, the developers have to set things to be playable on the minimum system requirements. So if you have a good system, you can mod the game to exceed those vanilla values.
