Is cobblestone useless after early game?
Is cobblestone like blunderbuss, after 10-20 days should be thrown away as soos as you have stable steel and concrete going?

Yep never looked at it again once I had a crucible and mixer

I still use cobblestone for basic structures and some side projects but I am now starting to roll out cement production for bigger projects. To me, cobblestones are still useful for my needs.

Each cobblestone block takes about 14rocks and 14clay, 4+4 to make a 500hp flagstone block then 10+10 to upgrade it to 1500hp cobblestone.

Each 2500hp concrete block takes about 34rocks and 10sand, then another 34rocks+10sand to upgrade to Rconcrete with 5000hp.

I like using Rconcrete for the first two blocks of a horde-base and then cobblestone for higher areas that won't get hit nearly as often because it's a little cheaper and much faster to make.

Pretty much this. Any major base just needs a 2 block thick wall of R-Concrete and the interior can bee wood/cobble if you want it to be. Quite a few base designs are nearly impenetrable.

You can make/use it for the XP on long nights.

I wouldn’t say throw away. If you’ve stockpiled a base worth of the stuff, the traders do buy bulk building materials.

Can always be used in forge to make cement as well.
Pickle Aug 11, 2020 @ 7:07am
The simple answer is Yes. The higher your game stag the stronger the Zombies the more block damage the less defense of cobble stone.

However? There are current base designs out there that materials are not important. Zombies can be manipulated to path in various ways as to all but ignore blocks all together. These tend to be very dangerous designs if something goes wrong, But some of the most satisfying ones to build.

Side note. I would recommend to always have two bases. One for crafting and storing loot. A separate, but nearby horde base.

It depends on if you are done with your base, at least in my experience. If I have a little stockpile of it somewhere, I usually make some flagstone blocks that I use to lay out some thoughts on redesigns to see how it looks. Cheap blocks with a full range of shapes available, easy to break down or leave in place and upgrade as needed. If wood frames had a full shape palette, or rebar had more than just a few shapes, I'd use that instead, but flagstone seems to have the best low cost vs available shapes.

Also sometimes handy to slap flagstone blocks into some areas to patch temporarily, then upgrade them as time permits.

It can always make an extra wall somewhere, or ten, you don't care about if it gets destroyed. Or ummm a mineshaft support...but really...Its a shame it can be treated as just rock for an alternative cement mix recipie like CobblexSandxCement.

Its one of those head scratchers, like why cobbletone blue bags are all over tier 4-5 Pois. Or why on earth 100% hp cement blocks get treated as empty rebar and eat up your cement mix if you accidently try to repair em.

^This, i keep a stack of cobblestone around as quick patch up blocks for horde night if they manage to breach part of my wall. kill them off and have a friend replace the blocks to hold out till the end of the night.

you do realize that in your inventory or at a workbench you can craft cobblestone for 1 clay + 1 stone? That pretty much makes flagstone blocks not only pointless, but an absolute waste of resources.

Further to what others are saying here, I'm shocked how many stop using cobblestone so early. Like, what kind of bases are you guys building where the Zombies even make it to your walls in early AND mid game?! O_o
Cobblestone goes super far for me, and no, I'm not playing on "easy mode". I just think in terms of "defending perimeters and zones" instead of "protecting walls". Why bother with building walls for the sake of them being cannon fodder? That seems like a lot of wasted labor & materials.
FancyLad Aug 11, 2020 @ 12:44pm
I use it for blocks that zeds will never be able to reach as well as scrap for sand to make cement.
JimmyIowa Aug 11, 2020 @ 1:02pm
I use it for floors, steps/jumps/stairs and inner walls. And things that normally don't get attacked - such as vehicle ramps, lantern posts around my base, and hallways. And sometimes as an ablative outer wall over my concrete, because it is much cheaper to repair than concrete. Plus it looks more immersive and visually interesting than concrete. (Yes I am aware of painting, but it is more time consuming than just using a real layer of cobblestone.)

That's to make cobblestone rocks.

You need 4 cobblestone rocks (4stone and 4clay) to make a 500hp block of flagstone and another 10cobblestone rocks to upgrade that flagstone block to a cobblestone block.

The cobblestone rocks you make with 1clay+1stone are just an ingredient, not a block.
