It is a fine idea and it has been done through modding in previous versions, but based on comments made by the devs recently, I don't think this will make it into the vanilla game. This is the kind of thing they intend to leave for modders.
There will be full Workshop support one day
Not only that (and I know, I'm asking a lot here) but wouldn't it also be cool to have you have some minimal care for the chickens too? By which I mean basic watering and feeding. And have them able to be killed by wayward zombies.
I think that would be quite neat.
Next we need cows for milk and the ability to grow wheat because I want real bread.
Then according to the skill, it relates our chance of successfully catching a chicken or bugger all. I'd defo go for that.
I'm loving this train of thought. Especially the smell/heat map and attraction of zombies.
Hey, how about zombie wolves being more attracted to them because well, that's real isn't it?
We don't have wolves here but coyotes and foxes are hell on chickens. I'm sure wolves would like chicken too.
