Right click splits a stack. Ctrl has nothing to do with it.
You can split half or you can drop single pieces
right click and drag to split half, then right click drops one at a time
The controls it shows in game are what is available, it tells you this every time you pick up a stack:

Right click drag splits a stack, you need to hold the button until you drag it far enough to split
The controls are listed in game, making up other controls and being angry that they did not work is somewhat pointless
Remember, the game is still in alpha development and has a long way to go before its finished. Maybe you should avoid early access games if unfinished games upset you so easily
Look 'The Front' as an example, where you can make a stock with whatever quantity you wish.
This is really an annoying, time consuming PITA game mechanics.
Assume that I want to fill up my Player Vending Machine with 1000 pcs stacks, it takes ages to do so...
You are commenting on a thread from 7 years ago when the game was definately still in alpha. Please pay attention to what you are responding to. I don't even know if the controls have changed 7 years later as I haven't played recently.
Everything I posted was accurate for the year 2017.
It's now 2024, your comments are about a completely different version of the game.
