Have you done a manual uninstall and deleted all leftover folders from 7d2d? You really should do a complete "Clean Uninstall" then go into steam settings and "Clear" the steam cache. Do a system restart, load up steam, install 7d2d..... be sure in 7d2d properties you don't have beta's enabled and set to some old version..... if you want the latest update anyway. Don't forget to go into your user hidden / system folder "AppData" and delete the 7d2d folder in there.
Hopefully, with a clean install.... you should have no issues loading up.

Chances are its your pc. 7 days demands a lot considering its voxel and has lots added from 2 years ago. Your pc is struggling to load in the map and all the blocks.

It takes like 15min here too if I generate new random world,I think normal loading next will be shorter when you choose same or other premade map.

What map are you playing? Randomly generated worlds used to be generated chunk by chunk on the fly. Now the entire map is generated beforehand, which does make for longer load times than other games. If you tell us your map size and specs, someone can probably tell you if your load time is normal.

This is important. Creating a new random world will take far, far longer than loading an already world. Like, in the order of 30-60+ minutes versus 1-5 minutes.

Computer specs matter too; How much ram you have, your cpu, gpu, etc. If for example you dont have enough ram, what will happen is that while creating the world, it will run out of space in RAM and have to shove a bunch of stuff to pagefile which dramatically slows the generation and load time down.. As in, if it would have taken 30 minutes, after shunting things to pagefile it might then take 2+ hours, if it even finishes.

I had the same problem. I haven't played for a long time due to illness, the last version i played was 16.4. Now I have a brand new Macbook Pro, 8 core i9, 32gb, with a Radeon Pro 5500m with 8g gpu. It took over 35 minutes to load a random gen map at the largest size (i guess i won't load the biggest map again), once it finally started, it was super laggy, too laggy to survive an actual fight. I loaded it on the mac side, but I also have it bootcamped, would it run better on Win10? I play other cpu heavy games on that side (like planet zoo) with no problem.

Yes, it's worth trying. I have similar specs to yours, and I've found that games will usually perform better under Boot Camp than under macOS. The renderer - OpenGL on macOS versus DirectX on Windows - is one significant factor there. That shouldn't affect load times though. I did some benchmarks on load times while A18 was in experimental, but I didn't collect enough data under Windows to say much about the difference.
Mind you, I don't listen much to my own advice. I play under macOS because I don't like rebooting and I don't like Windows, so I put up with the lower framerates, while staying vocal that better performance on the Mac side would be swell. :steamhappy:

Thank you! I will give the Windows side a try and see if that helps with the lag, at least. I wonder why the changed to DL the entire map at once vs on the fly.

Performance reasons, essentially. The map used to be infinite and generated on the fly like minecraft, but it caused all kinds of problems- Now it pre-generates a large but limited area so it loads smoother and doesnt have problems during play.

Vehicles played a large part in making this change a requirement; as even the minibike outpaced the rate at which the world could generate before.

On-the-fly was an elegant system, allowing for unlimited exploration and leaving players with a better first impression than these long load times before they can play. I still miss it sometimes. :steamsad:

I don't miss the horrendous stuttering you'd get when you were more than 10k from center though.

This is a big part of it. CPU speed and the amount of RAM you have play a HUGE impact.

If your PC meets the recommended specs, you should be around 12-20 minutes for generating an 8k map.

However if you are at minimum recommended settings, the same map can take 45 minutes to an hour.
If you are at the absolute minimum specs, it will take even longer.

I don't miss outpacing the generation or loading while traveling on a minibike; Or even just on foot sprinting, and falling into giant world holes- Or just having entire huge swathes of the world not load at all without a complete restart of the game or server.

I do miss the infinite worlds- But, I do not in the slightest miss all the problems that came with it.
