Loot xml / need help increasing loot chance
So, i've came back to playing 7dtd after a fair while away. Alot has changed.

I appreciate the loot a year or so ago was a little over the top, but now it kinda feels like there isnt anywhere near enough vs the time i have to play to have any fun.

I've spent hours trying to change the xml config for loot, but everytime i do the game fails to load.

I've looked online and apparently the way the game works is based upon percentages and rolls and how many items on spawn list and how many items, and then your scavenging ability, which the maths changes the % chance which mostly seems to end in 0.

Is there a quick and easy way to change loot xml or certain lines i need to leave alone?

I ust want to increase chances of finding loot in a container, as most containers seem to have literally nothin in them, maybe 1/10 containers checked, if not a clothing container.

Stamina, daylight, food and water seems to drop alot quicker, and its making my life hell, less fun, and more grind. I'm ok with grind but its not fun anymore. never seem to find cans of food anymore.

Has anyone got a loot.xml modded that changes loot chance by about 25%?

Help appreciated.

There are a number of ways to do it but I found it better to just change cars loot, fits with my walkin dead nomad style edits. I mean come on during a zombie apocalypse the things you would have in a car would be food, water, guns & ammo and stuff! So... find the cars section and change it, here's what i changed mine to :-)

<!-- cars-->
<lootcontainer id="19" count="1" size="7,4" sound_open="UseActions/open_vehicle" sound_close="UseActions/close_vehicle" open_time="4" loot_quality_template="baseTemplate">
<item group="automotive+tools+junk" prob="0.7"/>
<item group="weaponsPistol+ammo" prob="0.2"/>
<item group="weaponsAnyShotguns+ammo" prob="0.2"/>
<item group="airdropfood" prob="0.3"/>
<item group="ammo" prob="0.3"/>
<item name="flashlight02" prob="0.2"/>
<item name="militaryVest" prob="0.2"/>
<item name="minibikesForDumbshits" prob="0.3"/>
<item name="militaryFiber" count="1,4" prob="0.04"/>
<item name="miningHelmet" prob="0.035"/>
</lootcontainer>

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks bones, i found the chances were changed once i'd changed the abundance back to 100%... there are indeed alot of items that require different things, and packaged crates that once cracked open have nothin inside...

I just need to work on fairness of the drops now.

Can you add item groups without it messing up? i treid before but changed othger stuff at the same time. I guess i'll have to go find out ha.

Thanks.

I can speak to this, as ComSenMod makes more changes to loot.xml than anything else. Yes, you can make new groups of items, and call them what you want. You can play around with the min, max, and probability numbers on pretty much anything. But since you asked for a quick and easy way... have you tried just changing the loot abundance at the options screen? The math comes out differently than tweaking the numbers in the file, but it’s the easiest way. And as for running out of daylight, you could try playing with longer days and/or changing the length of nights.

Thankyou for the reply Crater, since the last reply that i made, i have managed to successfully modify the files required to accomplish what i needed, i read somewhere about the more stable option was to change loot abundance to 100% and then to edit the file, which worked perfectly.

The only issue i really was having is that since i'd last properly played, alot had changed in terms of the "balancing" ...of which i felt wasnt particularly balanced enough for me to play happily with the time i have for gaming/ slight disagreement with some areas of balancing.

Thankfully all is now well, i appreciate your thoughts.
