The Automatic perks affect the ak47 and m60, but not the SMG.
be a "machine gun"??? Utter madness....
Yeah...Right?
If the SMG was a Thompson Sub Machine Gun, then yeah, it wouldn't make sense, but a MAC-10 would be a machine-pistol (if we had one).
I have yet to find a game, that uses weapon-skills or peks in any way, and is perfectly (or even remotely) consistent, when it comes to smg-type weapons (that range from mp to auto-rifle), or auto-weapons and trigger-group-mods.
Maybe I just got used to it since the days of Jagged Alliance 2.
For example, 'Sub Humans' are things/creatures that are LIKE humans but are not in actuality Human. It is lesser, Less than, inferior to.
So, A Sub Machine gun, can very much be a thing that is like a machine gun, but, is not in actuality a machine gun. It is less than, Inferior to an actual submachine gun; It is a personal defense weapon that tries to emulate a machine gun in a smaller profile more akin to a pistol.
In fact, that smallness and compactness is what binds the SMG and the Pistol together in the Agility tree- They are small, compact, and suited to stealth and overall agility while retaining a moderate amount of damage as far as firearms go.
More generic names, like “SMG” over “MP-5” or “4x4” over “Jeep,” are typically deliberate. It deters lawyers from knocking on your door about IP infringement, and it deters players from quibbling over details of a particular real-life thing, instead of seeing its role in the game for what it is.
Also, fictitious names can be hilarious. Anyone noticed the “MayLag” washing machine? I love it!
TFP probably deliberately selected "maylag" because they know Sears is too poor these days to hire a lawyer to litigate copyright infringement…
No, no. The fictitious names are parody, which is fair use. So a Sham sandwich is fine, while a Spam sandwich could be trouble.
