This is my jig-saw puzzle design. The first one was the proto-type and the second one worked better and was semi-flush with the ground. The entrance to the underground base is at the center. During horde nights the zombies would rush at you, and hit the first pit-fall. They’d fall to the bottom, land on a bed of spikes and then in front of them would be a ladder allowing them to easily climb to the top, and thus not damaging my base. When they arrived at the top, they’d fall down again in the next pit-fall and. Most didn’t last past the 2nd pit-fall. This did a combination of fall damage and spike trap damage.

This is another design idea that I had. A pyramid. The very top of the ramp, just like the jig-saw design was a pitfall. The open slots you see give the zombies a clear path once they fall in the pit-fall to not attack my base, and to instead path to the front of the ramp to repeat the process. It did very minor fall damage the majority of the damage was the spikes. Plus the zombies seem to do a zig-zag pattern at the top of each ramp, hence multiple ramp tiers.

And the last base. For this one I wanted the zombies to only attack from one side. While I figured I could get some type of tunnel system to work I wanted to see if I could do it another way. This is on the Navigan map near one of the traders. The road had dipped down lower then the rest of the area and it had a large mountain at it’s back. The mountain is big enough that I don’t have to worry about the horde tunneling from the other side. It’s unfinished in this screen shot. But eventually I covered the top completely with dirt, preventing explosions.
The zombies would only attack from one side. I would get usually a group of zombies that would hang out on the top of my base but they wouldn’t dig down. I have ladders on the walls to prevent the zombies from doing damage and a pit fall leading into a kill room. I’ve also noticed that the zombies (understandably so) don’t do the best on ladders. Probably due to poor circulation. And often they fall. If they fall they fall onto those spikes and repeat the process.
