Why are Torches Better than Electric Lights?!?
I've wanted to light up the area around my horde base for a while now, but I wanted to use electric lights so I don't draw more screamers than I need to. So I ran some power from from my base out to some concerte posts with lights on them and...I can see the light that is only 8 squares away. But the light that is 15 squares away isn't rendering any light. Meanwhile I can see the torches and their pool of light that are over 30 squares away. What gives? Why are electric lights performing so badly compared to torches?

If I want to see the horde coming I'm going to be forced to use torches. Electric lighting feels like its only worthwhile for lighting a base.

Electric lights are a waste of time since they took out the good ones, . some players just put 3 or 4 blocks on the ground ans put 4 or 8 torches on them to light a bit of the area, put in the right place you can light a fair bit around your base, you get some screamers just put up 4 corner turrets to kill them when they come in range.. The lights should be a lot better even those silly spotlights are pretty crap

Torches make heat, heat makes it more likely that zombies will show up.

This is the main advantage of electric lights.

I think this issue will get some attention eventually, but in the meantime here is a little modlet that lets you harvest and place some of the new light models: flashlights, shop lights and lanterns.

https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?98097-Guppycur-s-Modlets&p=893481&viewfull=1#post893481

It's the one called Lighting System :lunar2019deadpanpig:

This will give you some brighter lighting options. And they are directional. This modlet is also a work-in-progress however, and the electric lights don't yet require electricity. But the lanterns can double as molotovs :Molotov::bonfire::buzzed:

On a sidenote, while you are there on Guppycur's page, I highly recommend both the RandomGetterUpper and RageZombies modlets. These really add a lot of flavor to Z behavior, especially for melee fighters.

If you are one of the "I don't mod" crowd, my apologies. Just pretend this never happened .:7days:

If you are giving 17.2 a miss... then 16.4 with Valmod mod adds around 12 lights including fluorescent and large radius streetlights.

Unfortunately many of the best overhaul mods aren't being updated for 17.2.

Yep, I don't know why the developers removed them completely. Even the current spotlights are garbage.

EDIT: Maybe they removed so many of the craftable lights because of optimization? Otherwise, it doesn't make sense.

because the devs have little to no idea of what they are doing . they cant even do a simple thing like lighting or weather temps properly why you ask ?? because they are in over there head is why ...great game idea i just wish some one better come up with it or they handed it over to people that know what they are doing .

Yes. If I recall correctly, the devs said some lights were removed due to performance issues. I take this as a good sign that they'll come back: hopefully in Alpha 18 with its focus on optimization and performance.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like should they solve the performance issues someday, then the lights should come back which would be Alpha 18 like you mentioned.
