This is the main advantage of electric lights.

It's the one called Lighting System
This will give you some brighter lighting options. And they are directional. This modlet is also a work-in-progress however, and the electric lights don't yet require electricity. But the lanterns can double as molotovs
On a sidenote, while you are there on Guppycur's page, I highly recommend both the RandomGetterUpper and RageZombies modlets. These really add a lot of flavor to Z behavior, especially for melee fighters.
If you are one of the "I don't mod" crowd, my apologies. Just pretend this never happened .
Unfortunately many of the best overhaul mods aren't being updated for 17.2.
Yep, I don't know why the developers removed them completely. Even the current spotlights are garbage.
EDIT: Maybe they removed so many of the craftable lights because of optimization? Otherwise, it doesn't make sense.
Yes. If I recall correctly, the devs said some lights were removed due to performance issues. I take this as a good sign that they'll come back: hopefully in Alpha 18 with its focus on optimization and performance.
Thanks for the info. Sounds like should they solve the performance issues someday, then the lights should come back which would be Alpha 18 like you mentioned.
