Issues while starting No Man’s Sky on Quest 3 VR
Hello, I recently purchased a Quest 3 and now trying to play some PC Game Pass games such as F1 23 and No Man’s Sky on VR. I could finally get F1 23 working with some tweaking of game graphic settings. However, No Man’s Sky just does not work either with lowest graphics settings in game (it does work sometimes but whats the point) or with Ultra settings. The loading window just keeps on loading and then the game sort of crashes and I have to kill it manually.

Can anyone help in this matter if I am missing some settings tweak also for NMS or is it a known bug?

I am using an i7 RT 3080 gaming laptop so this should not be an issue of course and the game works like a charm on full graphics on this laptop. However, nothing seems to work for VR. I tried with both Steam VR link and also using Meta Link through cable. I am trying to run it on max 72 Hz with 150% res.

Thanks,
Deepanshu

Your 3080 is not powerful enough to max out No Man's Sky in VR. Simple as that.
You will have to make some serious sacrifices to make the game playable.
I would suggest starting as DLSS - make sure you use DLSS Performance, make sure all the graphical settings are set to normal, not high, or ultra.
I used to have a 3080Ti, and it was simply not capable of decent VR gaming for a lot of games, especially NMS VR.
Also, don't compare using NMS in flatscreen with VR mode. The Quest 3's total resolution is 4128x2208 - that is higher than native 4k resolution, and too much for a 3080 - and your laptop is using a laptop 3080, this is not even a desktop 3080, and is more comparable to a desktop 3060Ti.
You can use SteamLink, then in your Quest 3, you can bring up your desktop, and launch NMSVR from an icon on your desktop. This will take you to a 2D large window to load your saves, then straight into full 3D when the game starts.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know it cannot handle maybe the VR specs but was just wondering if this was a bug from developers or Meta side but I guess it is just the config as you say. Anyways, will try to play with the settings you suggested. Also, when I click on the Desktop through the Meta Link, my laptop desktop is not visible, instead there is a black screen. I can open individual desktop windows but not the complete thing itself. Been doing some fixing and trying some things from internet suggestions but nothing worked as of now. Strangely, the same problem happens on Steam VR as well although it was working fine a few days ago.

Don't use 150% res, for a start. Stick with 100%. Like I said, DLSS in No Man's Sky, and use performance DLSS.
Don't use Meta Link, use Steam Link, and the release version, not the beta version.
Connect via Steam Link, when in Steam Home, press the tiny button on your left Touch Controller to bring up the Steam VR menu, and go to your desktop from there.
You will need a desktop NMS VR shortcut to run No Man's Sky VR.
The shortcut will look something like the following

"C:\Games\No Man's Sky\Binaries\NMS.exe" -HmdEnable 1"

That will make sure it's in VR, not flatscreen.
Also, because you're on a laptop, make sure it's plugged into the mains, and your Windows Power Profile is set to "High Performance", not "Balanced". Your laptop might get a bit toasty warm, but you want it to run as fast as it can, not in any sort of power saving mode. And with it running on mains power it won 't drain your battery.
Hi, wonder can anyone help or send me to the right place. When I load up in VR quest 3 wired link everything is fine but it doesnt recognize the controller buttons, I can see the wand line but it says press ! to continue on the menus etc, when I press triggers or buttons while hovered over the continue button on screen it doesnt do anything either.
