SteamVR not detecting my headset anymore in linux(ubuntu)

Steam used to detect my headset when connected via Link cable, and linux still sees the headset as a usb file storage, but SteamVR and steam link don't detect it. I've uninstalled SteamVR many times. I've enabled direct display mode, rebooted the headset and pc. At this point I feel that something may be blocking Steam from seeing the headset and can't figure out what!

Can anyone help?
