Does SteamVR Game Theater Work At All On Linux?
I was interested in finding a way to play my flatscreen Steam games in my Valve Index VR headset on my Ubuntu PC.

It seems VR games work on the Ubuntu PC, but the option to open a VR theater type environment to play flatscreen games in the VR headset like I used to be able to do on Windows... does not work on Linux.

I started STeamVR, I started my flat game, and look into the headset. I pull up the SteamVR dashboard with the Valve Index controller, and at the bottom center of the dashboard, there is supposed to be a game icon that you can click to look at it in SteamVR theater type of environment.

But when I do that, if I'm in SteamVR home environment, it just says SteamVR home there. And if I close SteamVR home environment and do it, the bottom center of the SteamVR dashboard appears blank.

If I click Desktops on the SteamVR dashboard, it says something like "No Desktop found."

I also tried doing this using the Bigscreen app, but for some reason that won't show me my Linux desktop either.

Is there no way to do this with either SteamVR or Bigscreen on Linux? Are there other solutions?

Haven't really tried flatscreen in VR other than by accident. But if you think SteamVR Home could be part of the problem, you can disable that in the advanced settings.

Go SteamVR settings -> enable advanceed. This will show you things that aren't usually displayed. I think it's at the bottom of the second tab where you can uncheck SteamVR Home.

Sorry for the worst directions ever. Maybe it will help you. I have Home turned off by default and I've seen flat games, so give it a go if you haven't already

Quick update - it's at the bottom of the General tab after enabling Advanced Settings

Ooh found another thing... with SteamVR Advanced Settings, a Dashboard tab appears. There are lots of Theater mode settings therein

Is this a windows source game? You might find that you've got to enable the correct proton (9.0.4 I think). My steam defaults to something obscure for some reason and this stops my games from playing.

I've been noticing that happening recently. My default is set to Proton Experimental, but I've seen few games are using Sniper somehow... and not running as well
