Can't Play H265 HEVC
I can't play these files in Steam VR Media Player. It seems to be a known limitation and I wondered what other people have done to solve the issue.

First I should say that I have the updated K-Lite Mega Codec pack installed.

HEVC files do play on, for example, Windows Media Player and the 'LAV' icons appear in the taskbar.

When I try to play the same file in the Steam Media Player I get the warning triangle and no LAV icons appear in the taskbar.

Suggested solutions are:

1. Use another VR media player.

2. Convert to H264 with a suitable video converter.

I like the converter idea as I'm comfortable with Steam VR Media Player. A converter needs not only to convert but to be able to handle 7K files and perhaps higher.

Has anyone any suggestions please?

Or any other solutions perhaps?

I think they discontinued the VR Media Player, so besides conversion to supported codecs, I don't see other way to play that files in it.

Thanks for replying. Converting is what I now do. Frustrating extra work but there it is.

It would probably be easier to use DEO VR video player (which is free) to watch VR videos, unless you've got some kind of special reason to need the SteamVR media player. https://store.steampowered.com/app/837380/DeoVR_Video_Player/
