SteamVR

Sell Valve Index at Amazon.
The problem is, by selling through Steam only Valve have created worst situation for those who live outside of US and EU. While with original Vive I was able to actually preorder it by using mail forwarding service, now there are zero options at all.

And please don't tell us how we should wait for official release in our countries. It took more than a year for official release of HTC Vive in my country. And price was higher than what I've spent on pre-ordering Vive, and paying for mail-forwarding overseas shipment. And mail forwarding was quite expensive, because of weight and dimensions of pre-order Vive packaging.

When we got Steam Controller and Steam Link officially available in my country of residence, Steam Controller got a retail cost equal to Xbox Elite controller(more than 2x increase compared to US retail). And Steam Link got 5x price increase compered to US retail.

And no, I don't live in Brazil or something. I live in Russia. We don't have insane customs taxes for electronics. If there will be no options other than Steam, Valve would kill Index sales outside US and EU.

Also getting Knuckles controllers a year later than Valve's VR game release, really?

I waited half a decade for Valve to get their act together with SteamVR. Some things are finally starting to work as intended, but Steam is still an unfettered mess. Especially for Vive Pro consumers. How can anyone have confidence in Valve's hardware when they can't even respect their own software? This is a bad start for Valve. The Index will be their undoing, but their slide into disrepute started long ago. Whilst the paradigm behind the Rift displeases me (ever since they were bought out by Facebook), at least it works perfectly. I have gone from daily headaches with SteamVR to none at all with the Rift, so they cannot blame my system; it's a common ruse which gullible kids tend to fall for. And now with 'Open Composite', I don't even have give SteamVR a second glance.

A mess of a post that ends up with Facebook promotion.. Bad advertisement. :steammocking:

They might be gaging the current interest in the Index, and once they actually release, might open up for other regions.
We don't really know anything so we have to wait and see

Please don't talk nonsense. It's not gaging interest. It's loosing sales. And it's almost as bad as Rift CV1 pre-orders. Where Facebook purposely prohibited mail forwarders in order to "fight scalpers". They've literally showed FU for all those not in US/EU. Many went from Oculus to Vive that day.

Valve not selling it worldwide is a quite the problem. Even if they eventually rectify it, people who spent money on parcel forwarding services will feel like they got the short end of the stick.

I'd love to buy the Index, but it seems Valve doesn't want me to. I mean, I'm still gonna do it no matter what it takes... but that just kinda proves how badly people want it worldwide.

I bought a Steam Link, I bought a Steam Controller, I bought a Vive. I want to buy your stupid crap Valve, let me do it!
Not selling worldwide day one is understandable. They are not a big established hardware manufacture. They don't have volume to ship as much goods on launch. Neither they have established channels of distribution. Forwarding services, while not the most optimal for the end user, is realistic option. Also, as I've said particular partner in particular country may happen a bad company. So there should be more than one option of purchase.

but 1400$ price
That's why it should be sold by Valve directly.

come on valve could you please let me buy it directly from amazon.com here on Israel please please. If I'll buy oculus rift S I won't be upgrading to valve index probably ever (and wait for whatever comes next)

You can do mail forwarding from US at this point.
Also check prior that fragility of Index controllers has been addressed. And if you don't have top of the line GPU you might stay with OG Vive + Knuckles when Valve's VR AAA will arrive.
Screen Door Effect is still there, so even Index doesn't make practical difference to OG Vive. Plus LCD is inferior to OLED. Plus Index's lens produce awful glare similar to Oculus CV1.

1. I'm guessing my 2060 isn't enough. Is 2080 enough or do I have to 2080ti? 2080ti pushing my budget too much.
2. I can't mail-forward because I can't even buy the damn thing... I guess I can use a VPN but idk... steam might ban me or something... could make a new account... too much hassle. lame

Well 2060 is a descent card to power OG Vive. Honestly there are no point reaching the sky with current VR. Valve Index is still gen 1 headset.
You can get OG Vive and enjoy hell out of VR without depraving yourself out of pocket money.

For me SDE is the biggest downside of gen 1 headsets. But Valve Index doesn't solve SDE issue. And you don't get practical difference with original Vive other than resolution comfort. You still can't see cockpit in sim games clearly or play competitive in flight sims. You still can't use Virtual Desktop comfortably as a replacement of a real desktop. You still can't watch movies with FullHD crispness.

While I would pay premium to get rid of SDE day one, I have no desire to replace my OG Vive with Index. Thou tastes might be different, and if you're picky for last and freshest "gadgets" it might irritate you.

If you'd later buy Knuckles to pair with Vive and a Steam Controller dongle you'll be able to use Vive wands as leg trackers.

2. There are mail forward services that order product themselves for additional fee.

1. I tried getting an offer from a mail forwarder and they wanted 1600$ so I said nope.
2. I agree that upgrading my 2060 X rift CV1 is probably not worth it for most, but I truly have no life because real life is lame and I spend a LOT of time in VR (right now with highly modded F4VR)...
So when I'll be able to actually buy it, I'll buy 2080 X index because SDE isn't a yes or no but how much and because I would really like to be able to read small letters in game without straining my eyes.
Sadly, there is no way to get index in a reasonable price right now for me... and I'll also need to find a way to sell my current laptop so that I wouldn't be too wasteful

If you use VR that much, and want more comfort, it's indeed worthy to get Index.

It's probable that Valve would expand list of countries for Index this year. If they'd actually achieve to launch first of VR titles they've promised.

There is also an option to get Samsung WMR headset and use Vive's base stations and controllers. But since you're running CV1 it might be closely same expensive as getting Index. On the other hand WMR has OLED. But I've heard that ergonomics is bad for long sessions even for Odyssey+. Samsung lazy sadists.

I thought about samsung or pimax etc but then I will need to also buy the base stations and controllers separately which is probably as complicated as getting the whole index in the first place
rusty_dragon 2019 年 8 月 21 日 上午 6:02
I highly discourage you to look for Pimax. It was a scum from start to finish. You're getting exact what one can expect there. Sub-par product from noname small Chinese company. Not only they haven't solved distortion issues, build quality is lacking as well. Just recently bumped into Pimax owner who told that plastic quality of HMD casing is bad. Which result in case cracking.

Valve Index also seems to be step back in build quality from Vive. Which is understandable, since Valve have started factory business from scratch. But Index is nowhere near as bad, as what Index offering. Also I hope Valve would solve baby problems of Index soon. They are known to have slow and steady consistent progress across their whole business. Not a guarantee, but there are good chances improvements will happen.
