Need Help: Quest Pro + SteamLink VR Crashing After 20-30 Minutes
Hey there, wonderful people! I hope you’re all doing great!
I’ve been running into a really frustrating little issue lately, and I’m crossing my fingers that someone here might have some helpful tips.

I’ve been using my Quest Pro with SteamLink VR, and while it’s super awesome for the first 20-30 minutes, it keeps crashing on me after that. I’m a bit lost and could really use some help!

Here’s the scoop:
  • Everything runs like a dream at first (I mostly love playing VRChat with this setup!).But after about 20-30 minutes, it either:
  • Disconnects me from SteamVR, which means I have to restart SteamVR and reconnect or
  • Makes VRChat crash, and I have to start the game over completely

Just so you know, I used to use Virtual Desktop and never had these problems. I switched to SteamLink VR for a bunch of reasons (like lower latency, better face tracking, and it just looks smoother to me), but now I’m stuck with these pesky crashes.

Here are some details about my setup:
I’ve got a special WiFi setup just for VR (5GHz, fixed IP, OFDMA enabled)

And here are my PC specs:
  • Intel i9-13900KRTX
  • 2080 Ti32GB
  • DDR4 RAM (2400MT/s)
  • Win 11

Also:
I mainly use this setup for VRChat. For other games, my Valve Index works like a charm!

I’ve tried adjusting settings, double-checking my WiFi, and updating everything (SteamVR, drivers, you name it), even reinstalling SteamVR, but I’m still having no luck...

I would be super grateful for any advice or suggestions you have! I’m running out of ideas, and I really want to get this working without those random crashes! Thanks a bunch in advance!

If someone helps me figure this out, I’ll happily share some Humble Steam game keys as a thank you!

Hope so too! I'm now contacting Steam Support to see if I can maybe get some help there

Hello! Since some latest updates (previous branch fixed it for... well... one update) I constantly get Error 450 on SteamLink on Quest 3. I've tried using Airlink with SteamVR - it crashes without said error (but logs show the same thing). Any ideas what to do? I reinstalled everything already, fiddled with settings, I have no idea what to do.

Steam VR is crashing when the bandwidth in steam link exceeds 90. Change the bandwidth to 90 to prevent crashing.

Others have had this same issue,

Hey there! So It seems like a few folks have pointed out that it might be related to running out of VRAM or bandwidth, along with some other factors. While I don't have a perfect fix yet, I tried out a couple of things yesterday that really helped! I ended up having a smooth VRChat session for about 5-6 hours before some new form of lag popped up (Everything was in Slow motion basically). If you're interested, I'd love to share what I did! Here are the steps I took:

  • Switching to the SteamVR beta (recommended by Steam Support)
  • Switching to the Steam Client beta (recommended by Steam Support)
  • Switching off "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling In Windows Start Menu > Setting & then in Settings: System > Display > Graphics > Default graphics settings (recommended by a user)

So far, these changes have improved my experience. I'm still in contact with Steam Support to troubleshoot further and ensure they can escalate this issue.
Changing the bandwidth to 90 solved the crashing for me.

Can confirm lowering from the default 205Mbps to 150 worked for me. 150Mpbs is what I use in Virtual Desktop with no issue. Just tried it in Steam Link and didn't crash once.
