See that ALVR makes really heavy lag. Mean the white borders left and right in your video if moving head sidewars. But you told that you know it makes high delays.
So, what you will do ?
You could try for testing a Beta of SteamVR. Beta temp_1.27.5.
It not feel like lag or fps drop because my fpsVR and XSOverlay on my wrist is steady.
Only game render it feel shaking.
Only Pico Connect has the issue not ALVR and Virtual Desktop
Best example is Vail VR, all UI is steady but not game world.
You can see that console text UI following to SteamVR Dashboard and game world is shaking same as other game i mentioned.
Pico Connect: https://streamable.com/0jvack
ALVR same as Virtual Desktop: https://streamable.com/f7xtb5
I can tell you that SteamVR Overlay, fpsVR, XSOverlay is normal and steady.
And yes i try all of SteamVR beta branch and downgrade Pico Connect and try Pico Streaming Assistant
What about your used hardware ? Pico 4 (PicoOS which version ??). Graficcard, Desktop-Operation-System ?
Framerate in games ? Refreshrate in the headset ?
Direct-Mode in SteamVR ?
Lasted Windows 11 24H2
Pico 4 5.11.2
13900k with RTX3090
My framerate is normal from my fpsVR Overlay 90fps around 40% GPS usage.
Most people in my discord community has this issue and said it SteamVR bug.
I got the problems with stuttering only since October 2023. The month when the Update 2.0 was released after a Beta-Testphase of only 1 week. Then the dummies pushed the new version into our world and the doomsday for VR-Gamers was alive.
What we can do is, using the old Beta temp_1.27.5 or accept that some games will stutter like hell.
Wow, during i am writing that here my brain is total confused and that is the biggest touch of Motion Sickness i got in 4 years.
Never me was bad as now by Motion Sickness. Last Motion Sickness effect i got was in the first 2 weeks when i try VR the first times.
I am using a Beta now, Version 2.9.4.
And in my videos you can see that shaking also. A bit ... in the headset it´s much stronger.
And I just noticed that my non issue games has the issue after is open SteamVR Overlay while playing and after a three second it will gone (frame sync normally again).
Very sad is that Betas like 1.27.5 didn ´t help anymore. It is broken now also.
You told this issue some days before too.
What a mess with SteamVR.
Sure that i have no stutters or jitter if i am playing a game which is installed on my headset only. These apps are all optinized for standalone.
I am understand that is much harder to develop software for ALLLLLLL headsets worldwide.
And i wish the smoothness back which i could enjoy 2023. The age BEFORE SteamVR 2.0.
Only the Valve Devs know what the relation between the old and new SteamVR It is your turn now. *Make SteamVR great again !*
Update:
OPVR-Toolkit makes heavy stutters in Metro:Awakening and let the game crash when i try to load a savegame. Will test Metro with actual SteamVR and w/o that toolkit.
Change the Beta temp_1.27.5 back to SteamVR 2.8.8.
And i get SHAKING also.
The whole world ingame shakes if i move my head. Only a little bit but very annyoing.
ABD ... my GPU gets to hot. Normally when i play a game the GPU is around 55° warm, now with SteamCrap 2.8.8 it will reach more than 70° but the strange is the usage of the chip is much lower.
In Beta temp_1.25.7 the usage is above 90% the most time, in actual SteamVRcrap it is around 30%.
Ok, i learned it Valve !!!
Switch back to the GOOD but older version temp_1.27.5.
Best for me, no more shaking.
Update: The actually "previous version" is 2.7.4. And i still get jitter. Seems that the tracking of headset and the controllers is not correctly and hangs sometimes on moving.
Also my GPU gets higher temps and the fans are crying like storms in autumn.
