Report a translation problem
how to include a report or a screenshot in the message board ?
Steps:
1)Execute Steam and SteamVR.
2)Turn on the controllers (Light in both controllers turn solid green but controllers icons in SteamVR status remain grey).
3)Plug the controllers to the PC via the USB cable for a second to the computer (Controllers are now detected by SteamVR status)
4)Unplug controllers from USB cable (controllers go undetected for a second and come back online and remain perfectly operational for the remaining of the gaming sesion).
This issue keeps the same whether I use SteamVR or SteamVR Beta (Currently I'm using Beta)
Note: Sometimes an exclamation mark shows up over the controllers icons on SteamVR status asking fow a firmware update (I've tried updating the firmware each time and the results don't change, unless I conect the controllers via USB at least once since launching SteamVR to the PC they are never detected).
If I choose not to update the firmware the controllers keep runing as usual (There is no change between updating them and not).
PC Specs:
CPU: AMD FX8350 (8cores runing at 4.7GHz-watercooled)
RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB dual channel)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA990FX Gaming
SSD: Samsung NVME 950PRO m.2 250GB
Video: Nvidia MSI GTX 1070 8GB
OS: Windows 10 PRO
(All with latest Drivers)
Vive was purchased 2 months ago. It's connected via a USB 2.0 port.
Thanks for the help!
After a recent update, sometimes I get this weird behaviour:
OS: Win7
Steps:
Start SteamVR, put on headset, headset is tracking, everything fine
Switch on controllers, controllers are tracking
Open Steam menu with the button on the controller
Results:
Everything loses tracking immediately
After a few seconds, the headset is tracking again, controllers are not
One laser pointer line is showing, but no controller visible.
Switching controllers off and on again does NOT help.
Switching SteamVR off and on does NOT help either.
After rebooting the PC it usually works.
I have not figured out how to trigger this behaviour. It seems to occur randomly.
Last time this happened, I received an error message upon reboot. Something about XML. Not sure if it is connected. SteamVR worked after that reboot.

Non-VR game opens SteamVR
OS
Windows 10
STEPS
Select LIBRARY from the main menu
Select ALL GAMES
Select Turbo Pug 3D
Navigate to Play
RESULTS
The game will launch, but so does SteamVR.
EXPECTED
The non-VR game should launch without launching SteamVR.
Windows stays at the "shutting down windows" screen and eventually crashes after shutting down with SteamVR runnning
OS
Windows 7
STEPS
Turn on SteamVR by pressing the VR button in steram
(potentially optional) start a game, then quit
power off the computer by pressing the power button on the tower, let windows shut down
RESULTS
Windows 7 hangs at the shutting down windows screen, then eventually crashes to a blue screen
EXPECTED
Winodws shutdown should not be affected by SteamVR
Steam VR initialization failed after few launches of UE4 project in VR mode (development built. 4.15.3 engine version). Bug was fixed by turning off Steam VR Home Beta.
Here is my thread on Unreal Engine Answers:
https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/675889/steam-initialization-problems-in-vr.html
OS
Windows 10
STEPS:
- Build VR project with steam support developed in UE 4.15.3
- Run project and check [projectname] / Saved / Logs / [projectname].log
- After few launches (if Steam VR Home Beta is enabled) you will see Steam Initialization error in logs. Without Steam VR you can't find any sessions and your sessions will be invisible to all players.
RESULTS
Steam VR stops to initialize correctly while Steam VR Home Beta is enabled in Steam VR settings.
EXPECTED
Steam VR correct initialization
So here's the problem. I've been having problems getting the sound to play from my tv when i launch a game with STEAMVR. I test the TV itself before opening Steam, no problem there. I test the sound again when I open Steam, no problem again. I test the sound when I launch STEAMVR, no sound and the frames drop drastically in game; it even affects YouTube.
So here's what I've had to do to fix the problem; and it DOESN'T work every time.
I mess around with the headset and my TV in the "Playback Devices" and in the Audio settings for the Vive. I have to do different combinations of ON, OFF, Disable, Enable, Set as Default, Mirror to, Do not change device, ect. This will sometimes give me sound in the headset and sometimes on the tv, or sometimes both. However, if i exit the game OR turn off the Vive, everything resets or no longer works, so I have to mess with it AGAIN to maybe get it to work. I've even unchecked "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device." in the Advanced section in Properties for the Vive. It only stopped the disabling of sound when I switching games, for now.
To clarify, this problem is only occurring when I turn on the HTC Vive, and started a few days ago (Aug 9th/10th). Everything was perfectly fine before that point.
Honestly I thought it was a problem with my Computer at first, I even wiped it completely and re-installed everything and updated everything too. That didn't work.
This problem is a pain in the ass. Please look into it.
ISSUE
VR Home has no text for titles or games. Yet, it shows pictures and has no other errors. If I bring up the menu I can see everything in the menu fine and navigate to the games I want. Making me ignore VR home, or just launch the game from my pc
OS
Windows 10 (however doing research the error may be because I originally had win 7 on another drive that I deleted when I updated to win 10 on a new SSD drive, Have read it may be caused by VR home aiming at the wrong windows directory for text)
STEPS
Open Steam VR.
RESULTS
No text other then built in 'graphical' texts. Like texts that are part of a games logo or picture. Have to launch games from the pop up menu or from the PC since even text boxes are completely empty.
EXPECTED
Text in the VR home where there should be but none show.
So I got off the steam vr home beta, problem persists. Got off the steam VR beta, problem persists, Got off the Steam client Beta, problem persists...
Normally i'd have a list of games to choose from when selecting "steam" in the overlay, and now I have nothing. If I bring up the desktop view I get a blank blue screen and nothing, and so the only way for me to lauch games now is to launch it once from the desktop so it can show up on the "recently launched" list.
SteamVR latest beta as of 10/16/17 completely locks up my machine on start up.
OS
Windows 10 Home running on Alienware R3 with graphics accelerator.
STEPS
Start SteamVR Beta.
RESULTS
SteamVR opens and reads "Connecting". System slows to a halt within 5 seconds. Tested repeatedly by moving the mouse and watching the cursor slow down and stop as the system hangs.
EXPECTED
It should work as normal.
NOTE
I don't believe I updated SteamVR Beta in the last few days, but the latest Windows update came in the night before this all began, so it could be related. The release version of SteamVR works fine, but since the rest of my team is on the beta, we can't link up in our Home environments anymore, which we use for collaboration.
In SteamVR Home's default environment, the Oculus Touch's left and right 90° turn buttons are swapped. The mappings are correct in other environments that I've checked, it's only the home environment that has them the wrong way around.
OS
Windows 10 64-bit
STEPS
Start SteamVR Home
Press the buttons to turn left or right
RESULTS
The view turns right or left.
EXPECTED
The view should turn left or right.
