[VIVE SCREEN FREEZE] Problems after updating to Windows 10 Anniversary
My vive started to freeze after the anniversary update, screen just freezes, pc still goes on but acts weird, laggy, I can see that steam got some problems with windows in the event view.

Did anyone found a fix? Nvidia hotfix driver didnt help.

Specs: i7 4770k, GTX 1080, 16GB RAM

Didnt have any problems earlier and from what I see im not alone with this issue.

Having the same problem since the Anniversary update. Running an i7 5930K, MSI X99 MOBO with a Zotac GTX 1080. Have tried numerous fixes including the 368.95 hotfix. That together with returning my system to stock clocks has improved stability marginally, but the problem persists.

Prior to the Windows 10 Anniversary update system and Vive ran solid with up to 2 times Supersampling. Now for example Project cars will barely run for 15 minutes without crashing and freezing the HMD.

Used the go back to earlier build option in the windows 10 recovery options to go back to version 1511. System is now working again with no freezes on the Vive ( so far). Will keep testing but so far this seems to have solved it, with one exception, reverting has corrupted the Nahimic software for my realteck audio. Cant uninstall, reinstall or repair it, so if you use Nahimic uninstall it prior to reverting just to be safe!

I was able to fix thi issue by opening the Developer section of the VR options, and selecting the option to remove / uninstall all USB based devices. Note that you must physically disconnect the Vive USB and HDMI or DP cables from the PC before taking this step.

I also removed the Vive Desktop software from HTC, as I never use the software and coincidentally, it had updated recently as well.

As the final step, I closed Steam, physically reconnected the Vive cables to the PC, and restarted Steam and Steam VR. I was able to use the headset for hours yesterday after taking these steps, without any further issues...

I've got the same problem.

- I5 4590K
- GTX 1080
- 16Gb ram

I tried to reinstalled windows but it installed the new update directly so I still got the same problem !

Been having the same problem. I goofed around and using the Display Mirror, found the Main menu which has an option to Exit Compositor. When I did that, the game unfroze. Headset is black, of course. I restarted the Compositor via the popup error at SteamVR and the game continued, no sound though. Eventually it froze again, but Exiting Compositor always unfreezes. Not sure how this helps me as it doesn't permanently fix anything, but maybe someone smarter than me will get a clever idea.

Sorry to hear that these step didn't help out...

The only other steps that I took were to remove the Oculus software from my PC and I updated the Intel chipset driver identified as out of date through the motherboard update software.

Reviewing recent errors in the Windows Event Viewer are what led me to take these steps. The Oculus software was throwing errors left and right, and Windows was throwing DCOM errors that appear to have been resolved through the chipset driver update.

Not sure if it helps, but figured I would share...

It's a video driver issue, nothing related to USB devices.

Check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for a Display Warning at the time of each freeze. "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Nvidia released driver version 369.05 with the Pascal Titan X. Going to give that a try with my GTX 1070; if no bueno then roll back the Anniversary Update.

Nope. 369.05 is Titan X only, bummer.

Back to Win10 V.prior for now... :(

Same issues here, Nvidia 368.95

edit: Just pointing out here, it's not happening 100% of the time. Just some times, but daily.

Annoying that I can't roll back to an earlier Win 10, I just installed it for the first time. Guess it is time to wait for a fix from nvidia

Same here. GTX 1070, i7 4790. Freezes mostly happens when I set renderTargetMultiplier.

Well today I updated my 1070 driver using windows device manager and strangely it updated it to 369.09 which is higher than the driver which nvidia itself provides. I can confirm that the update fixed my freezing issues after Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
