Prior to the Windows 10 Anniversary update system and Vive ran solid with up to 2 times Supersampling. Now for example Project cars will barely run for 15 minutes without crashing and freezing the HMD.
I also removed the Vive Desktop software from HTC, as I never use the software and coincidentally, it had updated recently as well.
As the final step, I closed Steam, physically reconnected the Vive cables to the PC, and restarted Steam and Steam VR. I was able to use the headset for hours yesterday after taking these steps, without any further issues...
- I5 4590K
- GTX 1080
- 16Gb ram
I tried to reinstalled windows but it installed the new update directly so I still got the same problem !
The only other steps that I took were to remove the Oculus software from my PC and I updated the Intel chipset driver identified as out of date through the motherboard update software.
Reviewing recent errors in the Windows Event Viewer are what led me to take these steps. The Oculus software was throwing errors left and right, and Windows was throwing DCOM errors that appear to have been resolved through the chipset driver update.
Not sure if it helps, but figured I would share...
Check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System for a Display Warning at the time of each freeze. "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
Nvidia released driver version 369.05 with the Pascal Titan X. Going to give that a try with my GTX 1070; if no bueno then roll back the Anniversary Update.
Back to Win10 V.prior for now... :(
edit: Just pointing out here, it's not happening 100% of the time. Just some times, but daily.
