Bluetooth not available
Hi,

I have purchased an "ASUS USB-BT500" Bluetooth 5.0 USB adapter
I've installed the drivers and such and the dongle works.

However, in SteamVR when I open Devices - Bluetooth settings, the window that opens says "Bluetooth not available". This issue seems to be present on many Linux systems according to google results, I use Windows 10 however.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? I would really want to use the power management feature for my lighthouses. Is it the dongle that is unsupported? Something else?

Does your Bluetooth come up in SteamVR? What dongle are you using?

SteamVR supports Bluetooth power management using the built-in hardware of Vive and Index. In the Vive, it is part of the link box (which you can connect separately if you like). In the Index, it is part of the HMD (shared with one of the controller receivers).

There may be third party software that can control your bases using a regular BT adapter.

Thank you for clarification, this makes much more sense now. I'm using Pimax 5K headset. Seems like that's the issue. Do you know of any such third party software?

There is another option which is to use some Wireless Remote Control Sockets. Since the firmware has not been updated for some years, the only use of the BT connection is to turn the bases on and off.

Ok, so it looks like my lighthouses are running some ancient 1.1.6277248 firmware, therefore I can't use stuff like https://github.com/nouser2013/lighthouse-v2-manager
from my windows to control them.

I can't update my firmware because I do not own an Index or Vive Pro headset.
I cant USB update either. I can enter the firmware mode as described here but it does not prompt for any update https://www.vive.com/us/support/vive/category_howto/updating-the-base-stations-via-cable-connection.html

I've settled for this app which is good enough for time being

Then, I would ask to some Vive fans to upgrade your bases, easy to find us asking on some webs dedicated to VR in your country.

Yeah, even better if Steam would fix this incompatibility. The hardware is definitely there, I'm using it altogether and it communicates. Just a software limitation. And an ambiguous error that does not clarify the actual issue.

Write me a poem in that case. Anything a little less cryptic than "not available" would ease the headache.

Or buy a couple of smart power plugs, and say hello to Alexa.

Why do you revive a year old thread?

Its been 4 years, and ive upgraded over time (headset with displayport). Now im not using the link box and the lighouses dont turn off. Glad to see there is at least some 3rd party app for it. Just cant understand why an BT radio isnt supprted for automatic on / off function when im using VR after all these years.
Have to say, replaced almost everything over time except the OG lighthouses and they still work, kudos HTC. Im a fan of good qaulity.
