I found a 'potential' workaround that works for me but might not for you. I hope it does.
My specs:
- Windows 10
- Intel 4790k (base clock)
- RTX 2070 Super (driver version 461.09)
- 24GB RAM
- Steam VR Beta 1.16.1
- 1x 4k60 monitor (Chrome, MSI Afterburner, other random windows but no games)
- 1x 1080p 144hz monitor DUPLICATED to a 1080p60 tv (this one shows Beatsaber for everyone else to watch whoever is playing)
- original HTC Vive HMD
When I would show the performance graph while in Beat Saber, it had a sinusoidal graph of lag, no lag, lag, no lag. During the lag, it would drop frames and was generally unplayable as a result. https://i.imgur.com/5Dy5Plv.pngRESOLUTION:
The lag all stopped when I put the mirrored view on the monitor/TV in WINDOWED mode. As soon as it went to windowed, frame dropping disappeared entirely and the performance graph looked totally normal

If you're capturing the game for streaming/video editing, try running it in windowed (if only there was borderless) and recording the window. It may not be pretty since you could end up losing a few pixels if the window doesn't fit on your monitor entirely but at least it will be smooth.

In my case I fixed it using 1.10.20 steamvr version and goes with good fps. it's the last version that works correctly. a bit outdated, but it works with quest with alvr or Virtual desktop
How? continue reading.
1. First, disable automatic steamVR updates (in steam library, search for steamvr, properties, update only when started)
2. Then get this file. remove the spaces: https ://mega. nz/file/VFQiRBAQ#-DPLGaxuzcT0gYwmmYPIN6_8QRJwumsboMyKSDMLKdI
3. Extract the rar.
4. You have to replace the steamvr folder found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\steamvr
5. Replace the appmanifest file found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps
6. Then, start steamvr from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\bin\win32\vrstartup.exe
ATTENTION: DO NOT START STEAMVR FROM STEAM, VRDESKTOP OR ALVR SERVER. THIS WILL UPDATE THE SYSTEM AND DESTROY WHAT YOU JUST DID. Just create a shortcut in your desktop.
1.10.20v could not be compatible with some devices. just try.
How does this version run? I'll consider using only if its nearly identical to the current version. Cus id rather not have a buggier version with less features then the current one. I own a Quest 2 headset. What is your experience with this version?
It's been over a year since this issue was introduced by one of your updates. :/
