Can you let us know what you did to get it working?

I'm having the same problem, i repaired my oculus installation and it made no difference. same steamvr version
I just reinstalled oculus and it works fine now. I would try that. It's about an 8GB file.

Dirkkane, did you reboot your PC?
Epicnessism Jun 24, 2019 @ 5:06pm
I'm having the same issue, I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Oculus 3 times now. Once even going as far to delete all oculus files on my computer that may have been left after the uninstall. I am still having this issue.

When I first plugged in the Rift S today, I did the first time setup and everything worked fine, was able to get straight into some of the oculus tutorials. But now it's just a black screen. Both Oculus and SteamVR say there is an error but will not specify what the problem is beyond that it is a runtime error

Epicnessism, when you uninstalled and deleted all Oculus files, did you also delete the files in the AppData folder?
Epicnessism Jun 25, 2019 @ 9:25am
I did not. I had forgotten that the AppData folders don't get deleted.

I just went ahead and re-uninstalled the Oculus app, this time deleting all files from C, D (where I had opted to put my games) and the AppData folder for the user.

The Oculus app now gets stuck at the continue setup by putting on your headset part, mainly because I can't see anything.

UPDATE: For anyone who delved this deep to solve their oculus rift S problems, this is how I solved the problem.

I did all of the major general guidelines to fixing blackscreen errors like usb power settings, updates for windows, device management disable thingy for usb3 root hub, reinstalling oculus, reinstalling SteamVR, reinstalling graphics drivers (latest at the time). None of those worked however it doesn't hurt to try all those.

I ultimately ended up downloading a program called "Revo Uninstaller" that completely deleted all oculus files including registry keys, and then I had to revert my Nvidia graphics drivers back. Had 430.86 or something before which was the latest, but I am currently running 399.24 and the Oculus Rift S now works flawlessly. However please note, this apparently breaks some physx games like Borderlands 2. I cannot play Borderlands 2 now due to the graphics driver downgrade. Still haven't found a complete solution.

Hope this helps someone else out there!

Thanks for sharing the update. How did you know that the Nvidia driver rollback was required? Have you tried updating back to the latest Nvidia driver since you got it working? I don't blame you if you aren't in a hurry to try it, but if you do, I would appreciate another update.

Uhhhh, well I had a friend come look at it, he brought his laptop which is also VR ready and we tested my rift S just to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue. Then we just started googling and trying different things. I don't know if there was a link that he found but he said, hey lets just try rolling back the drivers to an older one.

Um yeah, I am currently enjoying my time on beat saber so i will probably not be updating them again at least until I feel the need to play Borderlands 2 again. I will update this thread however, if and when I do and what happens afterwards.

While I never had this issue. I think the chances of someone replying with an answer is higher if you explain what lead up to the problem and what you have done so far to remedy it. As far as what you have said, my best guess is that it may be the USB power settings issue or you may want to try reinstalling the oculus application including registry keys. theres a program for that, ill link it if I can remember what its called.
