[Problem Solved] Valve Index Error 213 - Laptop Headset Display Disconnected
Hey Everybody,
I am just creating this thread so when people search the error code they will at least have something that points them in the right direction.

I love my Index, currently have logged something like 40 hours or so of time (I work full time so I play when I can), with no issues at all since Christmas (12/25/2019).

Last playable day was 1/16/2020

No cables are damaged or twisted in any visible way.

Any help or insight would be welcome.

Below lays out my step by step to present day.

Symptoms:
Index Headset is showing blue lights
When plugged in to ANY usb port, connection sound and notification register
Connecting to MiniDP port does not cause any kind of notification on screen (normal)

Attempted Solutions:
1. Restarting - No Improvement
2. Updating all drivers/BIOs - No improvement
3. Using SteamVR Developer Mode: Direct Display - No Improvement
4. Using SteamVR Developer Mode: Disable Direct Display - No Improvement
5. Using SteamVR Developer Mode: Remove all USB Devices/Unplugging USB - No Improvement
6. Using SteamVR Developer Mode: Disable Power Management - No Improvement
7. Using SteamVR Developer Mode: Restart Headset - No Improvement
8. Doing all the above while plugging and unplugging USB or MiniDP - No Improvement
9. Powercycling headset - No Improvement
10. Powercyclign headset while doing all the above - No Improvement
11. Cursing loudly - No Improvement
12. Splashing thrice blessed holy water while chanting in Latin - No Improvement
13. Beseeching the Omnissiah and daubing holy oil - No Improvement
14. Calling upon the Emperor of Mankind - No Improvement
15. Pouring Ale on it and hitting it with a chainsword - No Improvement
16. Contacting Steam Support - Responded

17. Problem Solved: -Bought a new MiniDP converter cable and it resolved the issue.

Recommendation to solve your problem:
Find a spare cable for any of the cables you can and keep them handy. If your USB connection point is showing the VR radio, that means the data is flowing. For error 213 try out extra cables to solve the problem for each of the component cables.

Update:

Hey everyone, so on a hunch I decided to by a new converter to MiniDP, it turns out that was the problem.

I think I may have burnout or inadvertently damaged the converter internally. Either way the replacement worked like a charm and it is good to go again!

Can you please share to us which converter you bought? I already tried 2 NEW converters that wont work.

Did the Index use miniDP at somepoint? Mine has the big DP adapter.
