I would recommend to uninstall Steam VR as a whole and install it again.

If your saying SteamVR works ok with Windows 7, I might do myself a dual-boot system and have the best of both worlds. My Vive Wireless Adaptor stopped working because of crappy Windows 10. I use a vpn, so lack of Windows 7 updates really isn't a concern.

I had error 213 (which is similar to error 208 in the way that 213 I heard is basically a version of 208 but for laptops.) and I managed to fix it!!!! I hope this helps anyone else who needs it. This is what I did:I contacted vive instant message chat tech support and it helped me. I got mine fixed. I did a power cycle on the link box by doing these steps: 1:Quit Steam VR. 2: Unplug the power and usb cords from the PC side of the link box (not the orange side). 3: wait a few seconds, and then plug the power and usb cords back into the link box. you may see more drivers install. oh also I had been using some longer hdmi and usb cables for it and I unplugged those and used the ones in that came in the htc vive box. after this it was giving me a different error code instead of 213. it was showing error 436. then the vive agent wanted system report file and so I created one by going to SteamVr > 3 bars menu > System report. at this point steam VR said it had encountered a critical error and I pressed restart. it then stopped responding. I closed it and tried opening it again. After it did it showed error 301 saying "SteamVR Fail. A key component of SteamVR isn't working properly.". both me and the agent thought that we should try a full reinstall of SteamVR by uninstalling it and deleting the SteamVR folder that is by default in this path on the hard drive: %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR. I tried to but steam then started not responding. I closed it and then tried to open it again. after a little bit it opened. I then successfully uninstalled it and then reinstalled it. it then was showing the error 108 "Headset not detected" but at least I was making some headway. I then created the system report file and sent it to the agent. he said that all the files were on the same disk which he was happy about and that there were no devices listed. he then suggested updating the GPU driver and reinstalling the USB drivers, which he told me how to do (even though I knew how to get the gpu driver) later but said that in the meantime I should do another power cycle of the Link box. which I did. it was still giving me the 108 error and windows was popping up saying "USB Malfunctioned". He told me how to reset the drivers. Here's how: First, download the latest graphics driver for your video card. This might require a restart but you don't have to because the USB Drivers requires a restart and you can take care of them both with one restart. Secondly do these steps to Reinstall the USB Drivers: 1. Unplug all Link Box cables from your PC.
2. Navigate to SteamVR > Drop-Down Menu > Developer.
3. Click on Remove all SteamVR USB Devices. Verify the USB cable or any other cable is not plugged in to the Link Box and click “Yes”.
4. Once this is complete, quit SteamVR.
5. Restart your PC.
6. Plug them in the following order: AC Adapter > HDMI/DisplayPort > USB.
This will reinstall all Vive USB drivers.
I did this and.... WOOHOO!!!!!!! IT WORKED AFTER THE RESTART!!!
It throughout this process and even after SteamVR has been showing a message saying "Some add-ons blocked. Due to a recent crash, some SteamVR add-ons have been blocked." I have pressed dismiss on this and have ignored it. So, I hope this guide helps anyone who has had the same issue as me :) . thanks. :)
