HELP. Black screen during windows startup, caused by headset.
Hello, I'm totally new in the VR gaming. My Valve Index has arrived last thursday. Everything ran smoothly and it was just perfect. BUT the next day, when I turned my computer on, the screen suddenly turned black during windows startup. I didn't know what to do, so I was forced to use power button. Yes, I know, I shouldn't have done it, But it helped. Unfortunately only temporarily. And I really don't want to do this every day.

Some guy (who is more experienced in IT), told me, that my PC probably thinks the headset is primary display. He also told me "try to use windows + P and select "duplicate". It did not work. I also tried to add second display via settings, but windows cannot detect the second monitor. And yes, my graphics card drivers are up to date (Radeon RX 580).

I don't know how to say it, but it's like "my PC knows about Valve Index, but not seeing it".

I'm getting really desperate, because I have no slightest idea what to do. Somebody please help :steamsad:

i'm not native english speaker. Sorry if my english is not very well.

that is a windows fault, the display of the HMD is using the same hardware as a monitor, if you run SteamVR for the first time, it most likely will be fixed
windows things Headset is a working monitor and will set the desktop to that
SteamVR will hide the HMD from windows

(HMD = Head Mounted Display)

I've had a similar issue when I first hooked it up, it went away after installing Steam VR, maybe try reinstall it and the HMD driver via device manager > Human interfaces
