Valve Index + Dell XPS 17 9700
I posted this in the wrong forum, so reposting here.

Am trying for a couple of days now to get the Index to work with my Dell XPS17 9700. I changed the BIOS settings for the XPS to force all outputs to run through the GeForce RTX2060, but still am unable to see anything in the headset (other than grey screen with occasional flicker), no matter if I run in Direct or Extended mode. I am connecting the DisplayPort and USB through my Thunderbolt docking station, which is connected to the XPS through a USB/C type plug.

In Direct Mode, I am encountering errors. With my external monitor plugged into the HDMI port, I get an endless string of "Headset Disconnected" warnings every few seconds. With my external monitor unplugged, I usually get HDCP warning messages.

In Extended Mode, SteamVR seems to think everything is dandy (other than the message that it is recommended to run in Direct Mode). The "Display VR View" window shows me a nice virtual living room that I should be seeing through the visor, except as I already mentioned, all the headset shows is grey with the occasional flicker.

Display Options and NVIDIA Control Panel both confirm that "Index HDM" is connected to the GeForce RTX2060.

Steam support hasn't been too helpful so far, apparently not paying much attention to the System Reports I sent through. Anyone here has any ideas or pointers?

For the record and the benefit of others with similar issues, I managed to the Index to work with my XPS17 9700 laptop. Required:
- a USB-C/DisplayPort adapter (so you can plug the DisplayPort cable from the Index directly into the laptop)
- changing BIOS settings to force GPU use on all outputs (the XPS manual explains how to do that, it's simple)
- attaching an external monitor (Index needs one, apparently)
- Switching Display Options to "Show on Second Monitor only" - this is to disable the laptop internal monitor which runs on the Intel integrated chipset
- Possibly adjusting your NVIDIA Control Panel settings to force High Performane and GPU use... not sure if this is needed but all the docs and Steam Support recommends it, and I've done it, so it's something to try if the above steps aren't sufficient

Were you ever able to fix this issue?
