HTC Vive and Asus motherboards
I got the HTC for Christmas, and apparently my Asus Z-170A doesn't work because of the USBs. This is absolutely stupid how all that money was spent and I can't even use it, people suggested getting a seperate PCI-E USB thing and It's over £20, I don't want to spend anymore money to get this thing to work. If anyone has had the same issue and has permanently fixed the issue, I would massively thank you if you manage to help me with my troubles.

did you try this?

Also consider disabling the passthrough camera during testing. Make sure your ram isn't overclocked, and read the rest of the thread below for other solutions.

That motherboard is known to have issues with a lot of VR headsets. Oculus users have problems as well. From what I understand it;s to do with the way the chipset powers the USB ports.

Here's an example.

Here's more about the Vive.

There are various solutions (as pointed out in the threads above) but depending on your spesific hardware, a PCI-E USB card might well be your only way to resolve the issue.

Hate to say it but it's not the headsets at fault...it's the way ASUS made that motherboard.

I just bought the PCIE USB card and I've updated my USB drivers. Thank you for your guys' help and hopefully tomorrow it works, fingers crossed.

you should be fine. make sure the pci-e is powered. if it's not, try it and if it fails, get a powered usb pci-e.

Please let us know if it works I am having a similar yet slightly more complicated problem with USB ports on my own ASUS motherboard of the same series. It would boggle my mind how my Vive even worked in the first place if this ends up being the solution.

I got the USB PCIE installed, and it seems to be working. But, I can't get my base stations to sync at all now. It's stuck on a screen saying "Waking up base stations". I still need to mount them but I have them across the room from eachother without any objects or reflections in the way.

I've mounted my lighthouses or base stations on the wall, and they still can't sync with eachother. This is really starting to get on my nerves, I may need to buy a syncing cable which costs £25..

did you install bluetooth driverse, identified base stations, and enabled control base stations in steamVR?
Blu Dec 29, 2019 @ 1:48pm
Yes, I've done all that.

My lighthouses are syncing now, but they aren't tracking my controllers or headset.

is your pci-e powered? sometimes it requires a psu power to be connected. also, the headsets need power.

you can use 1 lighthouse for now just for getting things set purpouses.

Yes everything is powered, and the headset is powered.

when you launch steamVR, go into steamVR, devices, bluetooth settings, check if there is a greenlight in there.

you might need to re-pair the controllers. anyway.
