SteamVR

Vive grey screen constantly
Played for like half a year with the HTC vive and have been having the issue that the screen goes grey , sensors it self stays green and in the dashboard saying the base stations have disconnected. First few months it was ok and it never happened but then sometimes in super hot disconnects when playing and now every game would disconnect. Happens constantly in beat saber , once in steamvr home.

I am confused what is the problem since I have tried doing every solution I found online and it still happens. I still have warranty and am thinking of sending it back but if it was my computer then that warranty is gone when there is actually a problem with it.

One thing I found when trying is that the more I use it or the more time it disconnects it goes less frequently in that session but if I use it the next day happens every minute or so

I think I heard of something similar happening due to the cable going bad, not sure. Try unplugging and replugging all the individual plugs, including on the headset end, see if that helps.

It might be cause of the heat, something like this happened to me too when the headset became hot after using it for a bit, try having a fan blowing at you or if you have an AC, turn that on

The headset has become hot before when the AC was broken. could it have permanently damaged the sensors on the headset and if so do I need to give it back to fix it?

As i said, try using a fan or AC and if it still fails, send it for warranty

Are you by any chance overclocking anythng in your machine? Look what I just saw posted on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/hd81sa/fixed_my_intermittent_grey_screens_by_reducing_my/

This was from a year ago. However the solution I found was to play with my cpu running at base clocks. It was a laptop so maybe overtime the thermal paste got worse and made it overheat. It did reduce performance but not enough for me to not be able to play.
