If that doesn't fix it, can you post a SteamVR system report from when it's in this broken state?
To obtain one of these, click the 'SteamVR' menu, 'Create System Report' and then 'Copy to Clipboard' or 'Save to File' and post the results somewhere. (There'll be a fair amount of detail so it won't fit in a comment here. Google Drive, Dropbox and similar seem to be good solutions.)
Thanks!

Does it definitely still work with an HDMI cable between the graphics card and the link box? If not, I'd double-check all the connections. For the ones on the headset, there's a small flap which slides forwards to allow access. Unplug everything then replug - there are likely to be tutorials etc. online to show you how to do this if you get stuck. (It's quite tricky to open!)
To check if it's the link box at fault, try connecting the HDMI part of the headset tether directly to the HDMI port on your graphics card. Then try the short HDMI cable from the graphics card directly to the headset - this will check if it's the long tether cable causing problems.
If it's solely with the new display port cable, I'm not sure what to do. Make sure drivers are all up to date, and if you can test the cable by running to a monitor of some description then try that.
Hope that's of some use!
I had a similar issue with a cheap DP<->MiniDP cable, making me RMA a new monitor before I realized what the issue was.
Try a different cable. Get a high quality one.
That was an Nvidia GPU though, but just to check, what other things do you have hooked up to the GPU?
I've already tried to reinstall steam vr and i restarted my pc a few times. Nothing happend.
