SteamVR
(Index) "Please plug in your VR headset" [SOLVED]
[SOLVED] Solution: What I did was uninstalled SteamVR, unplugged then plugged my Index in again and let that trigger downloading SteamVR with the window that pops up. Started working when the reinstall finished.

I have everything connected securely (have connected/reconnected multiple times), the cable the slots into the headset underneath the face gasket is securely connected (and SteamVR notices when I disconnect it), my rig is detecting the USB cable and it's plugged into a 3.0 port, lights on the headset are blue. Only odd thing is my video card isn't detecting the display port when I go into Nvidia Control panel. It's a GTX 980 Ti. I just reinstalled drivers and that didn't help. I've tried all 3 displayports on my video card.

Any ideas?

I got it fixed a couple days ago thankfully. Just in time.

What I did was uninstalled SteamVR, unplugged then plugged my Index in again and let that trigger downloading SteamVR with the window that pops up. Started working when the reinstall finished. Strange...

Hope that helps someone, although it seems there are many different methods with varying degrees of success.
I found a workaround if your headset is plugged in and your computer is recognizing the headset but SteamVR is not.

DL the Virtual Desktop app on your headset and computer and then use the VR Headset to launch Steam VR. Quit the program on the headset, return to your computer and open SteamVR from your computer. It should recognize the cable link now.

Okay I had the same Issue until a moment ago.

Here is what fixed it for me:
My Pc is brandnew and was missing some of the C++ Redistributables, noticing how Microsoft bundled 2015-2019 into a single download I went to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads and downloaded the package (even though I had e.g. 2017 already) for x86 and x64.
After rebooting my PC and starting up Steam, it automatically started to download "Steamworks Common Redistributables" (which can manually be found if you check Games and Tools instead of just Games in your Library), after which my recent installs looked like this[media.discordapp.net].

Another restart and just starting SteamVR finally showed my new Index headset!
I hope this helps anyone out there!

This worked for me, idk how my c++ redistributables got messed up but... here we are...
