Error 306 (HTC Vive)
Steam VR has been booting up in safe mode since this afternoon. Whenever I try to disable safe mode, whenever the app restarts it comes up with a "SteamVR failed to initialized for unknown reasons. (Error: Shared IPC Compositor Connect Failed (306))" message.

I am currently running on the latest graphcis drivers from Nnidia, have reinstalled steam vr, and have tried to follow this guide. However, I only have error 306. Here is a link[drive.google.com] to my SteamVR system report

I have this same issue. I don't know why...

I am having the same issue. SteamVR is crashing when I try to load it now after the update. If I try to load it again, it goes into safe mode or errors telling me its already running. I let steam update itself, I updated my video drivers, I uninstalled the USB drivers for my vive, and I restarted my computer. Still no luck.

I am running windows 10, a 6700k cpu, 64gb ram, 980ti. I haven't made any changes since I was playing yesterday and previous days before this started, just let SteamVR update to v1.1.3.

As a temp fix I changed my steam vr beta version to the june hotfix v1527117754. It has the old bug where the image on the homescreen would get stuck until the steam menu is opened, but at least it loads without errors.

They just removed the hotfix! I was on it earlier as well and it didnt load without errors either. Was litterally the only solution to the problem and they removed it.

you gota be kidding me. I was able to play a game with the hotfix, now they removed it, my steam vr updated back to v1.1.3 and I can no longer play VR.

Try the OpenVR-InputEmulator SteamVR Fix; This worked for me as I am using it with Driver4VR

Yeah V1.1.3 only works in safe mode >:( I want to use playspacemover. @denwa changed to the beta and used that hotfix and it's working *yay*!
They really need to allow older versions because these updates keep breaking things.

I had forgot I even had the OpenVR Input Emulator installed. Only used it for one game. That was the ticket though. I actually just uninstalled it for now and SteamVR seems to work now.

I cannot plaly VR any more,I use hotfix v1.1.3 too.

I found a possible solution for this : apparently, VR SERVER doesn't close completely (and keep the IPC canal for himself) that's why he cannot find the monitor on the next instance of SteamVR. (Several OS keep the previous memory for Fast Boot, that's why rebooting doesn't always work)
The solution that worked for me was just to close every instance of VR SERVER left in the Task Manager.
