Today there are a lot of goggles to choose from, you do not have to choose the worst.
After purchasing quest 2 or pico 4, you may want to go back to rift S.
Quest 3 doesn't exist and the pro have terrible value for money.
If your vr headset lacks tracking, you only have the choice between an old rift (cv1) or something based on vive base stations (vive, index) .
If you can have weaker tracking but want a great image - reverb.
If you want both, each solution is over $1,000.
If they do stable open-source support for Linux and compatibility with pc vr games is good, I buy this set immediately.
One quick question for grzegorz77
You said.
"If you want both, each solution is over $1,000."
What is that solution please?
But back to main question.
I'm using Windows 11, and 10 so Linux wouldn't affect me.
But I hope they fix it for you.
So the Pico 4, hardwired with cable.--
(not wifi, I would never use that.)
Not using Virtual Desktop.
Will plug straight into Steam the way the Oculus S does, and work?
I really appreciate the feedback, and help.
If you want excellent tracking and a good image, index is the cheapest.
But the price does not have a top bar, higher there are many different sets, most based on vive tracking, with vive or index controllers, and various goggles.
If you want a better image, but worsening the tracking you take reverb, if you want cheaper with a worse image but less degraded tracking you take quest 2, or pico 4.
You have to say what effect you expect, and how much you are willing to pay, and whether your computer can stand it, or you plan to replace it.
As I said, when you exchange the rift s for quest 2 or pico 4 you can feel a deterioration, especially in comfort and tracking, and above all compatibility.
Pico and Quest are not real cable goggles, the cable is an option, and the image flowing through it is compressed because the cable is "too thin", which greatly degrades the image quality, in relation to parameters on paper. The same applies to wifi. The battery also has its drawbacks if you want to use goggles connected with a cable.
Both sets don't work like rift s, it's just an advertisement that it's the same as pc vr.
In theory, just a few simple steps, and you have the software installed, but it doesn't have to be easy. Sometimes something did not work and you have to spend a few hours, or several times a few hours.
This was a great post thank you.
I had read about the image compression on the PICO.
PC is a new build.
i9 13900k
64gb ddr5 6400
Asus ROG Strix 4080 oc
WD m.2 black 7300
Asus Z790-E MB
But I watched a "comparison vid, on the PICO, QUEST2, and Oculus Pro.
And the PICO looks as good as either other 2, (the guy who uses Assetto, and ED as his benchmarks in VR.
It (the PICO looks really good.)
Even though, as you say about the compression.
This vid.

I had a Vive frst, and didnt want the lighthouses, so that rules out the Index.
The Pro looks good.
But I really didnt want Meta, although that isnt a deal breaker.
But the Pro, and even with the light blocker, I saw lots of people saying light sill gets in.
So its a guessing game.
I had hoped there would be a favourite, like a "go to" HMD.
Again, I really appreciate the help.
What do you think?

Showing the image from the VR headset with the camera does not make any sense.
It's not a monitor, the magnification is very large, the lenses are very aggressive. The most important thing is the "sweet spot" that is, where your eyes are.
You have an expensive card, you're not limited by your computer, and you probably don't have to save every dollar. If I were you, I would not buy anything below hp reverd g2, or index. Perhaps the coolest would be vive pro or vive pro 2, or something similar (edit: from vive).
If I were you, I would completely abandon thinking about budget solutions, and think of quest pro that is not designed for gaming (and has terrible value for money).
(edit2: translation error - DO NOT buy quest pro)
You also have the option to purchase vive tracking, vive or index controllers, and a more expensive hat - but I would also avoid this solution. It's a solution for hobbyists.
If all this persuasion is worth nothing, and you have to try - buy pico 4.
edit: You can also buy a PS console and a PS VR2 kit, If vive tracking is unacceptable to you.
Very much appreciated.
I looked on Amazon UK but they dont sell the Reverb g2 V2. Only the version 1. And I cant find anywhere in this country, as odd as that is, that does.
I also saw people as you said, saying how the index MC go with it., But as I cant get one, its another problem.
I cant get one of Valves HMDs, as I had a Vive, as said above, and I dont like the whole lighthouse sensors.
So i'm stuck.
Also thank you for the PS5 and PSVR suggestion, Im just not a console person. Plus with this PC, I want t keep to PCVR, both on Steam, and Unity.
Unfortunately everyone goes on about how good the PSVR headset is.
Just need a PC version of it.
I gave you a couple of awards. 🥇👍🏻🥽
Thank you for the awards.
As you can see, every vr headset has some drawbacks.
Reverb, Index, vive pro, these are the ones that the smallest percentage of people complain about.
But apparently even on acer vr wmr you can have fun in the world of vr.
